Buck mayo? or Sebbie?

I’m not going to get it till, late summer early fall, so I guess that’s enough time for a proper comparison to come out.... I like the buck….but I like the sebbie too……

I have not had a chance to handle the new Buck/Mayo but I did just get my first Sebenza and I have to post a very positive mark for the Sebenza. It is the finest knife that I handled and definitely the best knife in my collection. Fit and finish are second to none and it locks up like Fort Knox. I am looking forward to picking up a Buck/Mayo TNT in the future and I hope that they are as nice as a lot of people are saying. Hope this helps. Later

Sharpen the Sebbie and then the Buck/Mayo. If you have experience in sharpening you should tell a marked difference.

mschwoeb, I know when I say this I will be asking to get flamed big time. I have sharpened Sebbies and the Buck/Mayo.
What I noticed is that the Buck/Mayo takes (just my opinion)a better edge than the Sebbie and after using each one on some medium hard wood for the same amount of time on each blade, the Buck/Mayo retained the shaving edge longer. I resharpened each knife to approx the same shaving edge and did the same thing again. Same results. The second time, I was using a different Sebbie, but the same Buck/Mayo.
Let me say that I am not criticizing the Sebbie in no way. The difference that I have noticed is in my opinion, going to be the heat treat/temper that Paul Bos does. Rob Simonich(sp) has stated that he thinks S30V gets the best edge performance at RC61. The Sebbie is supposed to be RC58, the Buck/Mayo is supposed to be RC59.5-60. One thing that I did notice is that the Sebbies did not get as much of a wire edge as the Buck/Mayo does.

And the mayo takes the lead...

I love my Mayo/Buck. It really would be a great EDC because of the great steel, slim profile, light weight, great utility cutting blade (not a great stabber though), and it locks up rock solid for me.

Having said that, my Mayo/Buck remains untouched because I still love my 941D2CF better. :D So I will keep the Mayo/Buck mint for now.

By the way, has anyone thought of creating a slight recurve in the Mayo/Buck? I like a blade with a slight recurve, and with that nice thin blade it has it should be easy enough for a professional to take a mm or two off the middle of the blade. What do you think?

Frodo

PS Still working on getting a Sebbie, so no comparison, just my thoughts.
