I have an 882 which I use as a "travel knife" since I'm not willing to trust my Strider SnG to TSA.
When it comes to knives the old saying "beauty is in the eye of the beholder" couldn't be more true.
No I don't think it's ugly although I don't have much use for the stippling on the blade.
If you want to learn more about what users have to say about this knife i suggest you search on "882" and "SBT" over in the Buck Forum section of Blade Forums.
I have to agree that the 882 isn't the sleekest, prettiest blade I own, but it has proven to be tough and useful. It's also pretty comfortable to work with. As for the stippling, I just use it to file the burrs off of my nails.
I saw a Buck 882 today. I still think it is an ugly knife, but I am going to buy one. It fit my hand like a glove and it was built like a tank. I guess it goes to show that some knives are WAY better in person than in pictures. It is really a nice knife.
I have got this knife since December'03 and it serves me well The knife is light enough not to be felt in the pocket while carrying. Best grip I have ever had with the knife and very comfortable. My almost every day carry knife - lock works perfectly. Very easy and smooth opening even in winter time with gloves due to the harsh surface on the blade. This knife impress me all the time. And it has never failed me
