Hello, I bought this recently and just wanted to get confirmation if this is the 122 or not. I'm not professional knife expert so I'm not to familiar with the knife terms you all use. I asked a buck historian on email and she had said the knife looks good but needed more detailed pics for the year of when it was made. I sent her photos but never got a reply back. I called buck but they said they are too busy right now for the holidays and can't respond back till after the holidays. The blade is just a hair over 6 3/4" overall length is just under 12" its got a signature of a name "tom Philips" can someone help? Thank you and merry x mas.

Someone who knows this model better will probably comment, but my opinion is that this is a 1970 knife. The only difference between the 122 and the 124 is the sheath, and you have the correct 122 Nemo sheath. That's a great find, especially the sheath.

about 7 years ago I found a nemo at a garage sale just south of buck and jh house less that 5 miles-it was 6am Friday morning way up in the hills--paid 35 dollars for it---sold it on feebay the next couple of weeks after---what a dumba---anyways---yepper great find and it is a keeper.....

Ken, a great find. I'd say yours is a Nemo. Even without the box. It's rare you get that sheath. Someone sharpened the serrations but Buck
can fix them back. It has 440C blade steel, from 1971. Nice photos. You should purchase a Lottery ticket. DM

Right on! Thanks guys. Is that persons signature ayobe from the buck family? Its signed "tom phillips"

That's a fine looking knife. Thanks for the information. The name on the knife is tom phillips. I did some research but found nothing on him and buck knives.

Nice that you have the box James. I have both the 122 and 124 with the 3-line inverted tang stamp. Both of mine are serrated with the black/gray micarta. That gives us a pretty good time frame as to when the micarta type changed.... 1972. Now a question, are there any 3-line upright knives with a '122' tang stamp? Seems like the NEMO discontinued right about 72-73 didn't it?. There sure were a lot of changes in this knife from 1967 to 1973, then ran all the way to 1982. /Roger

My hand out sheets from Joe state the Nemo was discontinued in late 1971. With grey/ black micarta, heavy grain slab handle. Upside down stamp, Buck USA. Partially serrated blade, 2 butt rivets, 2 piece butt, lanyard hole. I think it could have either sheath. DM

I hope Tom phillips signature does not increase the value of the knife. I just sold it on eBay earlier today. As I was going to revise my listing someone bought it as a buy it now.

People engraving their name on a knife is a common thing. To me it detracts from collector value.

James, the 122/124 timeline by Houser is in the Dec 2006 Newsletter. I just reviewed it. It does suggest a '122' upright marked knife is possible in 1973.

Yep, Nemo back in production in 1973 BUT now with a 3 line stamp.
Ged, your white teflon spacer model and red hard fiber spacer model are from 1967. DM

OK David and James... we've hijacked the thread but one more question. The timeline says no NEMO's made in 1972 but that is the year I relate 3-line inverted knives with. So when were James's and my 3-line inverted 122's made? Mine is black/gray and James is black.
