Buck open season moose skinner in S35V cerikoted

I just saw this. Skinner ? Not for me thanks... I was expecting to see something along the lines of a revamped 105

Maybe they should just drop skinner from the name and call it "The Moose". Maybe stamp a Moose head on the blade too.

It's big, it looks cool, I like it. I'll find something to do with it.

IMHO, way too much focus on the name and not near enough on the attributes of the knife. When I get mine I'll call it what ever I want. It's how well I like it and how well it works for my needs that matter to me.

snip what ever I want snippity

Stick to your guns. Good on you. I've gone to ceramic coated frying pans and swear by them now.

Here's what happened: CJ named this knife while trying to leave his house which was surrounded by moose on all sides (see his cell phone pics if you don't believe me) helping themselves to his shrubs! When he actually meant to name it Mule Skinner after the fella that handles mules. Had the yard been full of mules there would not have been an issue with the name. That's what happened.

My apologies to all. Didn't mean to come off snippy. As someone who has this model on preorder I'd just rather see more discussion on what it is or isn't rather than complaining about the name. Again apologies to all.

I like the looks of it very well if I can sneak it past the Mrs. I'll have one on order myself next pay check. I think the cerokote is interesting. I have an AR that I cerakoted burnt bronze I really like that finish seems very durable at least on a gun. I watched a YouTube video of a guy that used the air dry cerakote on a camp style knife he was batoning wood and generally not very nice to his knife and it seemed to hold up very well and that wasn't even the baked on version of cerakote which I would guess Buck is using. I think that the Open Season series replaced the Alpha Hunter series the Alpha hunters where quite heavy built knives Buck didn't skimp on the slab of S30v they used so see no reason to think they did on this blade. I'm not really crazy about the slight recurve of the blade to me this is just something to do away with while sharpening but that is a minor issue. I wish I had someplace close that carried the open season line of knives I'd like to see if I like that drop handle design. I look forward to playing around with the S35v just to compare it to S30v and Elmax which I like so far. It's not a normal production knife so worst case senario it becomes a nice rather rare addition to my knife horde. And I can always say "that's not a knife this is a knife"

Any updates on this? Has anyone been able to put their hands on one yet?

Just saw it in the catalog tonight and am very interested in it. Lot of steel for the money. Overkill for the white tail here (my 103 is great there) but that never stopped me from buying another knife :-)

My preorder with KC still shows as pending. Last I heard they were supposed to be going out to distributors this month.

Cool looking knife. I just got the 530, same basic shape and love the feel and shape.
Maybe shoulda called it the Moose hunter! "Skinner" it is not, but if given the opportunity I'd love to use it to skin a moose.

In post #4 hengem posted that they were moving through the Buck factory and in his opinion they should be rolling out the first of March. Apparently that wasn't the case. My preorder is still just a preorder and lists no additional info on availability. That being said I would think that they should be out pretty soon.

Does anybody have any of the Open Season Pro series already. I'm interested in what you think of them. In particular the boning knife or full sized skinner. I got to a store the other day but they only had the caping knife and the handle was way to small in my hands but from the photos I've seen the Skinner and Boning knives look to have larger handles.

Little update on this knife.
The first initial run of these knives were cut out incorrectly. This has increased the lead time dramatically.
The first shipment will now be mid May and the the remainder will ship mid year. Apologies to all those who have been patiently waiting.
the silver lining to this whole debacle is there will be a build out with the S35VN blade that was incorrectly cut out being offered at a later date.

Have them put a nice checkered wood handle on the incorrectly cut blades and sell them to the BCCI. I would buy a couple.

I guess I'm a little puzzled as to the market share this model was directed to. Just doesn't really appeal to me. Don't know what I'd use it for. Now granted, that applies to many of the knives I own, but I can usually make up some kind of excuse why I need one. Just can't for this one. Zombies maybe? Dunno. :) Could be a good camp knife perhaps.

I do wish Buck would consult with me a bit more personally on designs so I could get the two or three I want made out of the way, then you guys can take back over. Lol.

Getting close to ordering some knives for my boys for this next Christmas it's a toss up right now between these Moose Skinners and the discontinued Ergohunter Pro that are still available a few places online. I am also interested in what is made from the miscut blanks if for no other reason than those will have an interesting origin story.

I see Knife Center has these in stock now anybody with them on preorder receive theirs yet how to you like it and some photo's would be great.
