Going to Maine November first-december 8th. Staying with my GF and her sister. Maybe a little hiking, no fishing or hunting. Which do I take. My Vic Swisstool or my Buck 110! I can only bring one.

I'd go Swisstool for the utility, even though I don't have one yet myself. In my case I'd be choosing the Swisschamp over the 110. The 110, which I do have and have had for a couple of decades now, is good at being a relatively large knife and not much else. I would have voted both had you not mentioned that isn't an option.

I only have enough room on my belt for one of the two or id bring both. On the one hand the swisstool has all the tools and a set of knives. But on the other hand i like the size of the 110 and just the whole look of it. Im really stuck lol thats why i came to you guys.

Practically speaking, I would say the Swisstool would be the obvious choice, but I sure do love my Buck 110, would be hard to leave it at home. Tough choice, are you absolutely sure you can't take both??

Neither. Hear me out. Have a look at the Vic 111mm or the Wenger 120mm knives, they are roughly the same size as the Buck 110 (well slightly smaller), all of them have locking blades, most of them are One Handed opening, all of them have nice selections of tools (not as much as the Swisstool but more than the Buck 110). The only down side is that you have to buy a new knife, the up side is that you get a new knife.

Well see. When i wake up, grab the belt and put on the tool of choice. I hate taking two when i cant carry both. Theyll make my pants go to my ankles. I love the weight, feel and sharpness of the 110, but i dont like the tip. If i have to let the gf use it or anybody else im afraid they may break it and its one of my favorite knives. Now the swisstool has most all the tools i would need on it and it has spear point blades on it. I just love how beefy the 110 is though, and its a nice knife to bring out in public without freaking people out. The gf isnt too crazy about knives to begin with, but she likes the 110 she says its "sexy" and shes already seen the swisstool. My only other knife i can bring is the benchmade benchmite, which she likes to playwith. Its kind of a GF/Fit on the belt/What do i need it for? kind of a mixup.

Id love to get a new knife, but im strapped for money right now as it is. My next purchase will be a new vic SA knife. But not anytime soon. I actually just got laid off.... but i have money saved up for the trip and everythings set so im still going.

Oh, also. My vic swisstool the pliers are kind of loose, about 1/2 mm. Just enough so they dont cut paper unless i fold it over. And my phillips head screw driver has some knicks in it where the screw driver slipped in the screw head! Are those both common problems?

Shit sorry to here about the layoff, I dodged one a few weeks back.

Could you not take both but only carry one at a time?

Yeah i've been debating that also. Hard decision! And im bringing my compass which is one more tool on the belt. Maybe ill just i dunno, keep the buck on me and store the vic for around the house?

What would you need the tools for? If you fly, it'll be in the baggage... bus/train - safer there, too. If you drive, carry some real tools. A SAK would suffice - but, my sons said it decades ago, when I would bring mine out of the pocket: "It looks nerdy (Now: GEEKY!)!". And, until recently, my SAKs dulled quickly - and stayed that way (I recently discovered the Spydie 'Sharpmaker' - my butter knife drawer's contents are becoming real knives again - including my SAKs!). I'd carry the 110... it's great for hiking. When you buy them, they are scarey sharp - and they stay that way. Have a safe and fun trip.

id take the sak. it'll cut anything the 110 will and has all the extra tools including the saw which could come in handy on a camping / hiking trip. the pliers as well could come in handy when fishing. to me the sak is so much more versital the choice for me would be no problem.,,,VWB.

I never go hiking without a bag, bring a small backpack, swisstool on the belt, buck in the bag :) Along with 3-5 granola bars, water, first aid kit, and a Ritter Pocket Survival Kit.

Bingo! If the GF doesn't like a cluttered belt, but likes the look of the 110, go with that...just leave the Swisstool in the bottom of your travel bag:D And when you go hiking, hopefully you have a small pack or Camelback that you can slip the Swisstool down into.

Haha, i love the way you guys think. If she doesn't know it won't hurt her right? Yeah, i think i'll do that... I also like to have a pocket knife on me, ill bring my benchmite so i have a quick grab knife for cutting odd things like tape or string n stuff. If i get in trouble im blaming it on you guys!

I would take both IMO. You can't have to many. But if I had to pick one it would be the SAK. Just hide it in the bag and when you need it take it out. LOL

Take the Made in U.S.A. knife! You'll be in good company up here; it's hunting season. Today at the grocery store, I saw two other guys with 110s.

God Bless America!

By the way, if a girl told me that my 110 was "sexy," I'd never leave it at home.

I definately do. I do this everytime i have to go somewhere. Take them all out, evaluate them and then pick 5, narrow it down to 3, then 2 and then i choose. Sometimes ill keep the one i chose out and then swap back and forth until the day i leave. So i found another solution. I bought a new knife!
