Buck Pair in Double Sheath Question PICS ADDED

Yes, it is just as I suspected.

That hard bone fiber was used until late 1969, so micarta would have been highly unlikely based on your friend's time-frame. He would have had to have been WAY off in his timing.

Wonderful set of knives. Cherish them.

As I said, the bone was used into late 1969 and that's bone.

Micarta shows a grainy texture. The hard bone shows the straight lines that you see in yours.

That's how these old eyes see it, anyhow. (I will be quickly corrected if I'm wrong.)

:)

Ofcourse, he's said that Buck's dates sloop over a year or two on items like this in other threads . But he's so sure on this one ! DM ;) ;)

You are very welcome, Wheelgun.......enjoy those, they are special.

I guess if nobody has corrected me by now I must be right.

:)

David, what is the 210 twin set you referred to in your post?

Wheel, From the early 60's Buck made three twin sets (not counting the 210 twin set from 1961) the first was the model 104 named The Twin Set which combined a 103 and 102 Woodsman . Second, came yours the 115 and third the 117 Trophy Set which combined a 103 Skinner and 116 Caper . DM

Well, you drug up an 8 year old post, better to just start a new one. That said, the 103 Skinner was originally called the model 110 Skinner. A 210 Twinset would be a 110 and a 102. The 110 Skinner became the 103 Skinner and thereafter the 103/102 Twinset was called the model 104. Clear?

I know we are not supposed to drag up old posts from the past and always some non moderator takes it upon them self to chastise the new guy that didn’t know the rule.. but.. I also like reading the old threads I wouldn’t have searched out on my own. I like reading the old posts from members past and current. To me it’s intresting.

Not trying to change the laws but my other boating, fishing, firearm, etc forums I’m active in don’t have this rule.

Sometimes there are posts from people who are no longer alive and made friends here, so too some the old threads can bring up very sad memories, that's why...

This is a sub-forum sponsored by Buck...Play in their sandbox, play by their rules...

All he was suggesting was to start a new thread. Which is good, he'd get more responses from a new thread than one that's 8years old...

Desoto, you were just trying to help a new guy out. No need to apologize. It's better for members who have been here awhile explain to the new guy's what's good and what's not. A moderator wouldn't be so nice, plus they can't be everywhere all the time...You didn't chastise anyone, regardless of what some people think or say...

Think nothing of it. I was out and will give eveled the information. Yes, the 210 Twin set combined the 110 Skinner and 102 from 1961.
The 110 skinner is a very handsome knife w/o the hump of yesterday's 103. More straight lines.
There was an earlier twin set the 109 Ranger set from 1950 that combined a 108 or 107. Buck used different model numbers then. But
these knives look like the 119 & 118 of today. DM

I realized what I did and could not find a way to delete my post. Sorry for the mistake. I was reading the old posts and forgot it wasn't current. Thanks for answering my question anyway.

Do not sweat it. I also like reading the old stuff. However, here they do have the custom of wanting folks to start a new thread.

No one here is going to be angry with you. This is a great bunch of folks. They just want to let you know that you would get a lot more response from a new thread because it would be answered by current members. That's all.
