Buck Quality Issues

I just got this 110 Slim Pro TRX directly from Buck for a Christmas gift and it arrived like this... Is there quality control really this bad? How could this ever make it into a box? Open or closed the lockbar is completely messed up. How long do you think it would take Buck to replace this? Sorry for the rant, I'm just really disappointed 🫠

I sent them an email about another issue over a week ago and still haven't heard back from them so not sure how quickly they are able to make things right. Apologies for the unnecessary post and thanks for the help.

A phone call seems to get a faster response than an email. If you had called them instead of posting here, you might have gotten the process of replacing it started today. Now they are probably closed for the holiday, and you will have to wait til after Christmas. You have a right to be disappointment, but calling Buck would have been more beneficial.

O.B.

I wouldn’t even bother sending that to Buck’s warranty department. I’d just send it back (especially since it was directly from Buck) and ask for an exchange. Let them fix it for somebody else. You paid good money for a good knife - just exchange it.

I have bought a lot of their knives lately as well as over the years, and have found some quality issues as well with blade grind and bevel symmetry lately.

I watched a recent YouTube video touring their plant and introducing employees. I noticed that a lot of the production workers were very short time employees? That does not bode well to high quality products in my opinion.

Just a observation and of course my opinion but maybe there is a turn over issue? Pay? Working conditions? Hmm. Makes you wonder.

Love the brand and love USA made products. Hopefully they can make the needed changes to decrease threads like this.

R RGSPro just a shot in the dark but it looks like the lockbar is not seating. Sometimes some of the buffing grit hangs up.
If you think that may be the issue a good soap and water cleanup/flush may put it right.

I had a closer look at it, and the lock bar does not fit the back of the blade. Comparing it to my Burlap Micarta Slim Pro, the lock bar is pretty close size wise, but the back of the blade has a larger notch so it looks like this S30V G10 one being too small prevents the bar from sitting flush with the scales once it locks open.

If he does fix it himself, will that void the warranty? That is a potential risk. Another benefit of sending it back is that Buck can learn from it. What gap(s) in their process allowed for that to happen in the first place? Any subsequent process improvements from that learning then benefits everyone.

Looks easy enough to fix. Save yourself the hassle of sending it back
Fix it by grinding on the blade or the lockbar myself? Buy a $130 knife and just grind on the thing yourself to make it work as intended :( Even if I ground down the lockbar, the middle pivot on the scale isn't positioned properly so the back will never sit flush with scale when its closed.

I haven’t had to send many back for warranty in my lifetime and I’m talking since the ’90s so I wouldn’t worry about it.

I don’t have the patience to deal with sending it back. I have the skills and ability to make it work and look good so it’s no big deal to me. It’s your knife. Do as you wish. Sounds like your heart is set on being unhappy so just send it back

This is the way.

I would not mess with it. Exchange it from the dealer you got it from.
