I picked up a Buck Ranger 112 this week and I'm finding that I like it for a wilderness knife. It is simple, relatively inexpensive, and built like a rock. I had no problem getting a good edge on it with my Sharpmaker. I would feel as well equipped with this knife as any other single-blade folder I've tried. Add to that the warmth of the wood and brass and you have a great combination.

Nice knife bro, is that like a smaller version of the 110 ?

Yeah. I can't carry folders over 3.5" locally, so I went with the 112, which is more like 3". Nice to carry in the Buck belt sheath, but not too big for your pocket.

I like lockbacks for folders. My pet theory is that they aren't as popular as liner locks because you can't sit and watch TV and play with them one-handed.

I bought my 112 back around '75. I went with it for the same reason, size and legal carry length. I carried it every day for 3 years in the army and when I got back I kind of put it away. I had modified the sheath in the Army so that it goes on the belt sidways so it was less visible and held to the body closer. I have recently "rediscovered" it. Its still a very good knife. I still take it out now and then and use it.

I probably should throw it in one of my kits so it gets more use.

I bought my 112 around 75 also...my first good knife. I also look back fondly on the sporting goods store that I got it at...old style...mostly a thing of the past.I really miss those old stores with racks of guns and cases of knives. I carried that blade everyday for many years...still have it and love it...but don't carry it much anymore.

Geeze, I was a year late...got mine in '76 :D
Good knife.
If you use it like a knife you will be very pleased with it.

The 112 is one of my favorite lockbacks, like the size and shape of it more than the 110, though I like 110's too:D:thumbup::thumbup: I'd love a 112 with a drop point blade, would be perfect to me.

I carry my 112 whenever I go to the mountains. I prefer the wood & brass old style folders compared to the modern tactical style folders.

Nice Knife, I see I should look into one of these.

I like the weight of these and the looks of the wood and brass on these knives.

And they are built like a Tank.

I have a 110 and a couple 501's. I love these knives and find them eminently useful. I never really knew I needed a fixed blade knife before the internet (though I had a couple). The wood and brass is just great looking on the 110 and 112. However, don't use the bolster for a hammer! I nearly ruined my 110 many years ago doing just that. I keep it as a scarred reminder of my foolishness.

I just found out that drop point 112's existed yesterday. It seems like it would be much stronger--- I just like drop points anyway.

I had a Buck Lite years ago, which is basically the same animal with a plastic handle. I had a sheath on my kayaking PFD, another on my pack and went everywhere with it. I lost it
