Exact quote from my buddy when I showed him the carbon fiber sprint I love owning. This statement however is applicable to many other people when they look at Buck's modern designs. Within the timespan of such amazing model designs as the Vantage, Marksman, Sprint, Impact, Mesa, Compadre, Punk, you start looking at options for a modern blade and Buck has tons of offerings. It seems over the last 5 to 8 years alot happened in a push to modernize and I love it! Left out alot of models, these are just the ones I have experience with.

Anytime someone in my circle is looking for a quality knife 1st thing I tell them is to look at Buck before they look anywhere else and they may be surprised what they find. It's not your granddaddy's Buck with newer materials, bearing systems, locks, designs, spot on grinds, steel types, and fit and finish on par with anything else out there.

So anyone you know that was surprised Buck makes that?

Buck has done an amazing job of expanding from basic bulletproof hunting knives into a vast plethora of complex modern knives for the younger and urban set.

I'm old school and have no interest in the new stuff, but hat's off to Buck for competing and staying in business and continuing that Lifetime Warranty and Spa Service with super service at low prices.

A lot of the young might see Buck as old-fashioned and turn away........and us old guys are dying off.

Buck might want to consider having two sales divisions.....splitting off the traditional knives and giving the new division of modern urban warrior knives a new and catchy name to better appeal to the youth.

A new name, maybe Secret Black Ops Tactical PlastiCool FlashOpen Ripper Division.

For whatever cutting needs you might ever have..Buck has made a product to fit that need at one time or another. Big small hunting self defense shaving kitchen whittling Bush craft axe..Every thing but surgical tools and I told Chuck I wish he made that in 2012. Can you think of any cutting tools Buck has not made?

a lot of the forum doesnt seem to be interested in the new stuff. I like both. new and old. im glad buck isnt forgetting about the past or the present and future.

This describes me as well. I like many different knives new and old and remember when some of the "old" knives I like weren't all that old. I am appreciative that Buck is making good USA knives that are competitively priced with newer steel offerings, designs and features.

I sure hope not. just prefer buck name myself.....

Some of Buck’s more modern releases really hit the mark. Some don’t, and are sort of disheartening.

I think the Marksman is an awesome representation of what Buck can do as for a modern design.

The classics will always have a market, and they’ll always be my favorites.

heres a 722 got recently. new updated version, and buck has tightened them up a bunch. almost no play anymore. real modern..thumb hole for one handed opening, pocket clip. even though on the shorter side blade wise for my normal likes...this is a one useful folder. visually ain't real appealing design wise to me, but man is it a great design for a modern daily user. ive been coming around on these. everything works and well.....

Na, keep it Buck, a proud name that's respected

I too am impressed with the modern offerings, especially the Marksman. Great knife for walking around the mall.
Now I gotta go buy a Marksman with a tanto point.

That would be a fool move!

I've played with many different knife makers thru the years.
When you look at the value of a Buck knife; made in USA, awesome customer service, forever warranty, spa service, blade replacement, heat treat, quality of product, leather sheaths now made in USA..... I cannot believe how much you get for what you pay.

Anybody even remotely familiar with knives knows the Buck name.
Why would Buck want to separate themselves from everything they have created just to attract a few uninformed newbies?

If you love heritage, defend it.

Yep..the Onset is a very, very nice modern folder. When I go fishing I keep a eye out for a user and I too wish Buck would use the steel for other models. A 110/112 drop point auto in Nickel silver MOP or Ivory micarta, especially a 112 would force me to dig deep or even sell a few other treasures to add it to my collection. I don't think a Dammisteel 112 would just be displayed but join my Scrimed Ivory Damascus 112 my Brother made me as my ultimate DUC (dress up carry) Buck.

I really like their new stuff, especially how they're moving their budget line to the US. I think getting some of the newer designs in the folder really helps diversify their offerings.
