I can't find the '88 redd delrin 300 series to save my life. I found one 301 on the BAY, had a bidding war and lost, just in time to see the same knife, seller and starting price on the bay the next day. Something must have fell through. But I can't find a single one anywhere. Does any body know where to find these knives other than the bay? suggestions

Are you utilizing the search features at that site ? Try the model # and name . There are usually several 300's offered . DM

I have tried model #, series, Buck red modeland # , only one 301 and it was missmarked '93 and it was a '92 better for who ever ends with it. But thats all.

Was there a 1988 red delrin 300?

Red Delrin 300's made their first appearance in the 1990 catalog.

I have an '88 catalog with them being displayed as "new", Ill post pics but not till Monday

I have the catalogs right here in front of me, the red delrin 300's are not in the 1988 or 89 catalogs, they are listed as "New" on page 14 in the 1990 catalog.

Bear, Please excuse me but I have a hard copy catalog dated 12/89 and the red handled 300's are in it as well as the clippers listed as 'new' . DM

Are they on page 14, Dave?

Do you think you might be looking at the same catalog as Chris?

:)

No, mine is not a catalog like that . It's a fold out type and the pages are not numbered but still a Buck catalog . DM

I just went through my catalogs for the 3rd time today, and there are no red delrin 300's in the 1988 or 1989 catalog. They first appear as "New" in the 1990 catalog, with the 301, 303, 305 and 309 on page 14, and the 305S4 red Clipper on page 15 with the other Clippers.

Is it possible that a 12/89 is an addendum to the regular catalog?

Actually, if one takes the time to think about it.....a catalog dated 12-89.......would contain a 1990 product line.

Works for me.

;)

Not sure Bear . I have several of these counter type catalogs made to be handed out at hardware stores, showing all the Buck models . The TP# is, TP500M1289 and in this the 300's listed are, 305, 301, 309 and 303 and a different picture showing the six Clippers (305) one has red handles . Heck, being that late in 1989 these models could have been poised for 1990 introduction and were not available right then .? The 300's are not my forte' and I'm just reading the catalog . DM

OK, I think that's a different flyer, my 1989 catalog has what looks like "C120M189" on the last page.

I won't swear there aren't any red ones that early, I just found a yellow 301 1989 stamped in the old 2 backspring design in my collection, that isn't in any catalog from 86-93????

Those years seem to have had a lot of new and different stuff being played around with at Buck in the 300 line, and not all of it seems to have been put into the catalogs consistently.

Bear, I think your on to something . My 89 catalog also has in it the 300's offered in the brown bone handles . Haven't found the yellow ones yet . DM

By catalog, are you still referring to the 12/89 flyer?

My 1989 Dealer Catalog does not have the Brown Bone stuff either, but my 1990 does as "New".

I think BG42EDGE may be on to something, it's like it was a "coming next year" addendum???

Still haven't found the yellow stuff in a regular dealer catalog yet?????? Gonna go all through the 80's later.

(Came in to cool off, enjoyed the discussion. Now I am getting involved, or should I ?

First off MB, there are two Red 301s, smooth scale and sawcut scale. Smooth came first.
My Holy Grail List...(Tofts) says Red Smooth begins in c. 1989 and sawcut c. 1992. BUT, I have a sawcut 303 stamped 1991 (see photo). The 309 (MAY NOT) have ever been made in sawcut.....I am ever hopeful and watching like a vulture to find one.

So you color collectors have to work on two sets. Don't even think about Red clippers because they have both scales and the sawcut has wenger made scissors (rare). Notice the stainless scale rivet after 1991, all brass liner era reds will have brass rivet, but not all 3 spring post 90 era will show the changes coming into the design by the SS rivet ....notice the 92 was still flat ground on the clip blade and the sheepsfoot blade(s) are moved in post 90 dates. See the difference in the escutcheons but be carefull using just quick glance, especially on escutcheons since they can get replaced, make sure you look at date stamp and bottom of knife to get it correct. Sheepsfoot opposite clip, all SS construction post 91, all SS except brass spring rivet post 90.....confusing unless your sober........

Heres a photo of a quick grab just to prove me out.

As far as finding them, gun shows, knife shops that buy old knives and you know where.
Down here in University of Oklahoma and UA 'Razorbacks" football land they can be hard to find, same would go for a couple of other red school areas. They are usually not cheap. Someone find me a sawcut 309(or at least a photo).........300Bucks

Thanks 300, good info. and photo . Looked at the red handled knives in my 89 catalog with 2X glass and they are smooth, no saw cuts . I don't see these much at the knife shows I attend but if I come across one from the 89 or early 90's I'll procure it and then bargain with you over it . DM ;)

My appoligies, the catalog I have is the '89 not '88 but I enjoy getting everybody in a frenzy.I have displayed the pictures from the fold out catalog ;)I have. Please enjoy if the subject isn't mute yet. I'm still loking for these butes. If anyone has a set and wants to work something out let me know:D
