BUCK red 300 series

As long as we all now understand that the knives for the 90 product line would come out in a catalog printed in 89.......I think we've made substantial progress. That's just the way catalogs go, in my experience.

:)

Well MBJ more good or bad news depending on how you see it,

The bones come in two sets also, brass linered and all SS......all I can say about finding a set is , good luck. Not trying to scare you from the quest, just giving some prespective - I don't have every single one of the double reds or bones....and I have been looking for for 15 years........300Bucks

Looking is the best part, when I find them, I buy them and then I put then in my safe. I pull them out a couple times a month and ohh ahh over them but then, back in the safe. Hunting for the snipe is all the fun even if you never catch one.

Yeah, I think as collectors we need to try to develop a consistent use for various terms, and what is a "catalog" as opposed to a later "addendum" or counter "flyer" and other promotional materials outside the annual dealer catalog.

Might help sort this stuff out!

Catalog/flyer, potatoe/ potadeo,
if you want clear definations:jerkit: Hear, This is the defination of catalog; A book or pamphlet containing an enumeration of things usually arranged systematically.
There the CATALOG I have has an enumeration of Buck knives arranged systematically, devided into series and dated 1989.
This is for every body that needs special help:confused:. What ever the case lets not argue over the unimportant things. lets argue over the important things, like if the red 300's, saw cut is better than the smooth.:D

I never argue the subjective.

Only the objective.

:D

And Bear Claw is correct......definitions are important because they can help us understand each other better.......and understanding better means better discussion and more light than heat.

;)

I was corrected so to speak bout the green guy, and to the person that corrected me, thank you for the friendly advice. To Bearclaw I appoligise for the green guy.

MBJ......you're fairly new here and may not know that the green guy has been a source of many complaints before.

The green guy offends a lot of people......and it absolutely puzzles me.

The green guy emoticon, just in case some of us hadn't noticed......appears to represent masturbation.

Why one poster would ever want to visually communicate masturbation to another is beyond me. I guess it's the ultimate form of sexual insult from a man to a man.

That's a really bizarre thing to have on a forum and I don't know why BladeForums doesn't just remove it.

They are pictorially violating their own rules about appropriate content.

Here's an official request from a member.

MR. BLADEFORUMS.......TEAR DOWN THAT EMOTICON!!!

Thank you very much.

Sorry to go off topic here but I have info from Buck's perspective on the use of those terms.
Dealer catalogs are the 8.5" X 11" thingies that show all of Buck's products for that year. The first one I have is from 1964 and on the front it says "Dealer Franchise Information". Consumer brochures, which came in a variety of sizes and panels, usually about 3"x6", were not labeled. The first one, from about 1964 was 3x6 and only one panel, front and back printed.
A far as we know they printed a new dealer catalog each year back then. In 1977 the labeling was changed to just "Dealer information".
In Buck's first color dealer catalog, 1979, they dont have anything on the front, but once you read the inside it is obvious that it is meant for a dealer. The consumer brochure for that year was printed in 2/79 and has 4 panels, printed front and back.
Its not until 1982 that we see "Dealer catalog" printed on the front of the uh...dealer catalogs, and this continues through 1992. For some reason they decided to omit that in 93-2000. 2001 has "Wholesale catalog". 2002-2003 omits that. 2004-2007 are back to Dealer catalog. 2008-2009 are now dealer workbook and 2010 is back to dealer catalog...if I was not positive that you have all been lulled to sleep by now, I would go through all of the consumer brochures to see what they called them.......actually that kinda sounds fun so I'll sign off here and head for the archives...

Thanks Joe, that's kinda what I was talking about, from a collectors view, the "catalog" is the annual one that features "all" that years product line, and the other smaller ones that only feature specific or limited lines, are supplements to the catalog, consumer brochures, flyers..etc.

Sweet dreams Joe:p

Seriously though folks, thanks for the info. More variations than a 3rd version 110.:D

Bear, are you trying to get us to reference only one catalog ? As others may contain different information, creating confision ? DM

Oh no, I want to reference whatever literature they put out each year. What I was thinking is more about the terms we use for the different literature.

Like the annual dealer catalog that shows the whole product line and typically comes out early in the year, is "The Catalog" for that year, and other smaller publications that come out to feature just certain stuff, are "the BLANK brochure" or something similar.

That way when someones says "the catalog" or "the BLANK brochure" we as collectors know which literature they mean.

In the case we have in this thread for example, the 1989 Dealer Catalog would be called "the catalog" and the smaller foldout you have that is dated 12/89 would be "the 12/89 slipjoint addendum or brochure" or something else.

Well after all that. Doesn't the little 3x6 have all of the Buck knife lines in it? I mean it folds out to 10 or 12, 3x6 squares front and back. They couldn' have had too many knives in '89.
