I saw a Buck stockman at Amazon for only $20, this is significantly cheaper than the Case knives I've seen. Are these things any good or will I regret buying the cheaper slipjoint?

I have two Buck 303 Stockmans and I love them both. Great size and Great Quality for the $$$$!!! They are the knives that brought me back to Slippies...:D

This Buck 303 is a bit strange as that it has a Badge/Sheild on both sides...

I've bought three Buck slipjoints in the last 3-4 months. The Lancer I have was made in the USA, the Canoe and Toothpick were made in China. Early impressions are that the China made Buck slipjoints I have seem to have better fit and finish and a little better overall quality and feel than the US made Lancer. They're all a small step down from the Case slipjoints I have, but make decent inexpensive users, and aren't bad for the money IMO.

I believe it is the "30*" series (like the ones shown by Baba) that are made in the USA.

I believe the 301 and 303 Buck's are still made here in the U.S.A. and are very good knives. I carried a 301 stockman for over 20 years, and it was a tank.

Of late, even the made in China Buck's have been pretty good from what I've heard from other forum members. Since it has the Buck name on it, I don't feel its too much of a gamble to buy one. Buck is a very standup company run by a great family who will stand behind thier products if there is a problem.

I believe, Wooden scale knives are from China and the Sawcut Derlin or any Bone are USA made. As I understand it from hanging out in Buck Forum...

I am truley thinking about picking up one of the New Mini Trappers (China)... Looks like a great size. I am just reading around trying to get some opinions on em first.

I own one of the Chinese manufactured minitrappers and I think it is a fine knife. The blades came sharp enough to shave my arm hair, and they were evenly ground on both sides and were flush with the back in the closed and open positions and open smoothly and close with good snap. The handles are a little fatter than I would prefer for this size of knife but they are nicely finished.
Overall it is a perfectly good little knife but I do think it is a little more like a mini saddlehorn pattern than a mini trapper.

Got a link? Was the handle black or wood? If black, it was made in U.S. Not likely at that price, but you never know. Heck I recently saw a Victorinox Champ on there for under $30!

Type in "buck stockman" at amazon, it's the first hit.

Hi,

I've got a 371 stockman, (China made). At 4" it's pretty big for a stockman and really fills the hand. I got it because the guys here felt it was a good everyday user. And they were right. I don't regret getting it or using it. It's a bit bigger than I like for an EDU, but it found a place in my brush pants for hunting.

I've looked at the mini-trapper too. I haven't got one because like nondescript, I think they're a bit tubby around the frame for the pattern.

I have one and I like it. I have not used it to much but it is a neat little knife. For the money I would buy it again.

Can only speak for the one I own, but I must say I was very pleased with mine.

It came sharp good grind, fit and finish was very good. I really can't say anything bad about it. I've got 3 other Case Mini Trappers and it's almost on a par with them. It's worth the money.

Thanks for input fellas... Guess I'll go looking for one this weekend. The Meijers near me was stocking them a month ago. Heck I'll just check in the morning. LOL!!!:D

As to the concern of where they are made. On the buck website they make special note of the American made ones.
