Buck slipjoints any good?

I have had nothing but positive use from China Buck knives. Fit and finish are great and everything you'd expect from a USA Buck.

My chinese Buck slipjoint is well made. Nothing not to like, except the word "China" on it. If that doesn't bug you, then go for it.

I've got lots of USA and China made Buck slippies, all good.

A quick and simple rule, if the first 2 numbers in the model number are a "37" or "38", it's made in China.

All others are USA, either current production, or past contract by Camillus or Schrade.

As has been stated, the 30x series is made in the US.
As has been stated, the fit and finish is lesser than that of Case.

But I'd like to add that the Bos heat treat schedule used by Buck provides a blade with superior edge retention for the Buck 420HS compared to the edge retention of either Case TrueSharp or Case CV steel.

I find that the edge retention of my 301 is a bit lower than my Ka-Bar Large Dozier in AUS8. But both were superior to Case Tru-Sharp and Case CV blades in manila rope cutting comparisons.

I have the smaller sized Chinese stockman and it is a solid knife. Just not as charming as my Case Peanut.

I bought a Stockman and the Mini Trapper about 3 and half inch closed and they are good knives. I have a 501 that I like a lot and the quality is there on all these knives. I just had to get past the China stamp.

Folks, this is getting tiresome. If you don't want a knife that says China on it, don't buy a knife manufactured in China. It's simple. Don't blame them for making knives that U.S. companies contract them to manufacture. Blame the U.S. (and European for that matter) companies that decided that it was better for their bottom line. Period.

If you want to discuss the merits of a particular knife or brand, fine. Let's leave the country of origin out of every other post. Otherwise we might as well start giving the same treatment to knives made in any other country.

Now, don't get me wrong. Personally, I prefer U.S. made knives, both production and custom but this harping on China in every post and thread is disingenuous at best. Let's move on.
