Buck Strider 889BK SBMF Military Tactical Knife

Well......

The lock failed on me today. The finger chol (spelling?) saved my fingers.

I'm not happy.

It is going back to Buck Tuesday.

I believe these knives have a defective design in the liner lock. In my
previous post in this thread after going through 3 of them at the store
I thought I finally found a good one. However today I got to work early
and was playing with it and spine wacked it at a slight angle on the heel
of my hand and it unlocked! Oh well. I guess it's time to save up for that real Strider SMF. :D I don't know how Mr. Strider could have put his
name on this thing. The only thing that might prevent it from unlocking is if you have a normal grip on the handle(index finger in the first groove of the handle). The index finger might prevent the liner lock from popping out from
behing the tang. I will try this and get back to you guys. If it's any consolation, if the blade does fold on your finger at least the blade choil will
not cut your finger off.
It is a neat design and and has really wet my appetite for a real Strider as they have a very similar look and feel but have an awesome frame lock. Does anyone know if the Police knife (882?) has these liner lock issues? I hope not. That might be an option to a full on Strider for now. It's kinda sad because this really is a neat knife. But my Chinese KA Bar Warthog has a better liner
lock....

The Police knife is what I related.

As to Strider putting their name on it, it seems to be a limited deal as no futher news of an ongoing relationship has come out in months. Kershaw seems to be enjoying a favorite son capacity, and has been doing well with the ZT series. Not many poor quality concerns have come to light there.

In my opinion, Buck cheapened it too much and is reaping what they sowed. I bought one based on the design and Buck's reputation. Buck has disappointed me in the past with their newer designs, and they did again.

Funny how the Mayos and ATS34 Striders do well, but the 420mod and FRN is just low quality for the $60 price. I could have had two 110's for that.

I bought the Buck/Strider 882 with ATS-34 blade and G-10 handle a few months ago. It locks up VERY solid and is difficult to disengage the liner lock. It has survived spine whack tests and has Zero blade play. The clip was very tight and I sanded down the G-10 so it wouldn't shred my jeans or pants. This knife opens very easily due to the hole/thumb stud combo. I love the handle on this knife and feel it is extremely secure in my hand. I have no complaints and have grown to love this knife. I rotate it into my EDC between my BM 710, BM mini-Rukus, Ontario Hossum Retribution II, CS Black Sable, and my G-10 Byrd Cara-Cara. I love all these knives for different reasons. The 882 is a good knife.:D :D

I love the design of this knife!(889) It fits my hand perfectly and I just can't put it down even though it has the lock issues. I want to get the 882 model
that you have but wonder if the liner is thicker than the 889. Maybe I should just get the PT since I love the design so much. I can't believe how quick it opens! I guess that is a function of the heavy blade. Buck/Strider had a great idea with these but the execution on the lock really sucks. Maybe I should look into those ZT Knives, I love Kershaws and Striders, what a combo!!

Having bought ripoffs, copies, and the real thing, I can state you get what you pay for.

Pricey? Some complain, but even Buck's great service only returned me a equally bad design. So they met the ISO guidelines - if you document you build junk, you comply.

Strider has a great design, I'm not so sure Buck did it justice at the low end.
