Here's my dilemna, I've only got the money for one

I want a tough, larger daily carry. How would you compare 154CM with BG42? For edgeholding? Sharpening? Any other knives I should consider in the same price range (~$150)? I'm trying to minimize any buyer's remorse here. Thanks for your opinions.

I strongly recommend the LCC over the Buck Strider. The overall level of fit and finish on the Microtech is much higher than on the Buck that I saw. The only advantage of the Buck would be for hard use that might damage the blade, however, if a knife is going to be used in such a fashion, it does not make sense to use a knife that lists for $190 like the Buck Strider.

If it was my money to spend, I'd go with the LCC as well. This is to take nothing away from the Buck, but I do feel the LCC represents more bang for the buck (no pun intended).

All things being equal (namely heat treating) most feel that BG-42 enjoys a slight edge over 154CM in most of the categories that we generally consider such as toughness, edge holding, etc. But it's been my experience that Microtech does a fine job with their heat treating so the advantage will probably be slight. In any case, the blade grind and edge geometry of the LCC will make it a more efficient cutter than the Buck.

It is to laugh. If you want a door stop then by all means get the Buck but if you would like to cut something with your KNIFE!!! then by God get the LCC.

I'd take BG42 over 154CM any day, when considering those two companies. If you want a purty knife that will to a good job as a cutter, hold its edge reasonably well, and take a good edge, get the MT LCC. If you want a knife that will take a killer edge, hold it a long, long time, and be tough enough to do some dang serious work, than I'd say get the Buck/Strider in BG42. They're both liner-locks, so I wouldn't me able to make any decision based on the lock. The placement of your fingers on the Strider design (if you choke up on it to the front of the grip area), coupled with the grind of the blade (bit of a choil area there at the hilt) would indicate you have a better chance of keeping your fingers when the lock lets go without you wanting it to.

I have the MT LCC. 'PURTY' knife that sits in the drawer now that the new has worn off.

The LCC is better made by far. It is equal or better fitted than most custom blades! The Strider looks a tank of a knife, but a tanto tip does not appeal to me as much as it once did.

154CM or BG-42? Well BG-42 is better, how much better is debatable. Most argue it is about 15-20% better for edge holding etc.

I would rather the fit and finish of the LCC with a SLIGHTLY inferiour steel every time.

Now a LCC in BG42 or on of the CPM steels! Wow!

From what I've heard, the LCC is a great knife, and the Buck Strider is really tough. The only one I've handled was the Buck, which felt like a tank, actually a fort.

All depends on what you want to use it for. Personally, I would go with the LCC
