I just got my new Strider folder, and the blade is loose when opened (it moves up and down, as well as side-to-side). This isn't normal is it? What would you suggest I do? Send it back to Buck or Strider, to the dealer friend I bought it from, or try to tighten the hell out of it? Any suggestions would be much appreciated! Thanks!

Hmmm... I just received one (my first Buck "tactical" folder) and it displays similar problems. It had slight side to side wobble. But that was cured with a partial turn of the pivot screw. But there is still substantial for/ aft or vertical play. In fact enough so that it rattles a bit when shook! My guess is that judging from the almost non existing contact mark of the blade tang ramp, it is a result of poor QC. Similarly, when its blade is in the opened position, the locking liner has almost no friction contact against its respective blade tang. Standard warranty procedures here? Thanks.

Mick Strider told me to either send the knife back to the dealer, to Buck Knives or to Strider Knives for replacement. He has seen this quite a bit recently, and is not happy about it.

Who would expedite quicker? My model has the 1 of 500, Bg42 print. I would like to get same one back. Or are there only these 500 made?

L8r,
Nakano

Oooh, they don't make 'em in BG anymore. That was the first 500 only. You might want to send it to Buck in this case, and see if they can swap you blade onto a new handle body or something. Just a thought...I sent mine to Strider.

Joe Hauser, what is your suggestion here? Would a new liner be fitted or a new blade be replaced? Either way I' d like to keep the BG42 1 of 500 integrity. Please e mail me. Thanks.

L8r,
Nakano

I feel sorry for you Nakano. I have also a First Production Run Buck Strider, BG-42. My is rock solid. No blade plays or other probs.

However if it wasn´t OK, I would not send it back. I believe that your problem is not that hard to rectify by yourself. There was a similar discussion at the BM forum some weeks ago. One of the guys (Professor) has had the same problem as you. He solved it this way:
1. Loosen the pivot screw, so the gap is really big 2. Use some kind of lubricant (Silicote or Teflon) and oil the root of the blade really well 3. Tighten the pivot screw until the play is gone 4. Use a couple of days to "break it in" so the blade again mooves smoothly. This can take some a while but don´t give up!
Hope this will help

Thank you dePaul. But the problem is not side to side wobble. That was already cured with a some tightening of the pivot screw as mentioned previously. The problem is fore/ aft or what some term as vertical play. In other words when the blade is in its opened position, it moves freely going in BOTH the direction of the locking liner and the other way against the blade pin stop. I know of no "home" remedy to cure this. I believe a new locking liner needs to be fitted. Certainly the most appropriate and the less costly way. Mick or Joe H., what are your thoughts. I' d like to get this moving. Thanks.

Sorry for the delay folks,

I would suggest that you send the knives to me at:
Joe Houser

I will make sure your knife is fixed and returned. If it is a BG-42, I will make sure that is what you will get back.
