Have not seen any discussions in quite some time. Was the knife a novelty must have at the time or are people disappointed with its quality and performance.

I hope it wasn't. I love that knife. It's probably one of the best knives I've ever handled. I'm still waiting to get mine back...

I handled one of these recently in a knife store.
I know that my opinion will probably not meet with all of your approval but I have to say this anyway.
I just couldn't even get past the awkward opening of this knife to even give this knife a serious consideration. It felt like I was holding a "oversized Pakistani salesman's knife". This thing has to be the absolute worst thought out knife design that I have ever handled. I even asked the store owner if this was a joke or something. I expect more from Buck Knives than this.

Sorry guys. Just my opinon.

I haven't handled a Strider, so I can't comment on that, but I think Buck has done a good job of updating its product line to become competitive with the current industry trends. They were lagging sorely, still producing 110s and variants thereof, when the "tactical folder" craze started -- and their line is pretty darn up-to-date, now. I was pleased with the Odyssey I picked up for a song at the local Sam's Club, and Buck has several other models I wouldn't mind owning.

'Course, there was nothing wrong with the 110, either, and I have a couple of those. But variety is good.

And tomorrow when you wake up it will be worse.

Usually new knives get talked about A LOT on the forums for a "short" period of time, and then you don't hear about them for a while (generally). It is because there are so many new knives comming out, that people start talking about the new ones, and then those new ones get replaced by newer ones, and so on. For example, look for a lot of chat about the Benchmade Griptilian for th eenxt while, and then when the next SHOT or BLADE show or something comes up, a new folder will be talked about and you won't hear much about the Griptilian for a while.

I really like the Buck Strider series, although they are not the best for EDC IMHO. I have owned 4 of them and they all had a few bugs that had to be worked out, typical of a new knife design. Buck has been very busy working on this QC issue, so no worries. I wouldn't hesitate to buy one because Buck has great customer service. They are purpose built knives, made for WAR, i.e heavy duty use under extreme conditions. Thick blades, thick handles. Great for those that need a good field knife but don't have the option of a fixed blade.

Good call Clay!!!
I'm sure You all have read previous posts where I have said nothing but praise for the Strider. I love that knife and it had been my EDC for approx. 3 months until it was illegally taken from me. (See knife laws forum) I didn't mind the bulk, just look at the thick liner lock - that puppy won't snap shut under ANYTHING!!! This is a HARD USE knife, practically a folding prybar. If your need calls for something that won't break, this is the knife.

I greatly dislike the design of the Strider. But, it did show me that Buck could build knives with very good production values.
