Hello, I just purchased this knife from a fellow forumite, titled as "Buck Strider Tarani Police ATS34". It was described as: "Mint no box buck-strider tarani bos heat treated ats34 combo stonewash blade."

There were no pictures and this is what I recieved. There is no Tarani stamp on blade also there is no BOS treated stamp on blade.

Can anyone tell me what I bought?

Thanks.

hmmm...should have tarani under the buck...should have bos heat treat logo and ats-34 on the opposite side...and the fonts are different...as compared to the one i own...

...who sold you that piece?

......Hmmm...Doesn't look too cool to me...Here's some pics of what the blade "should" look like...click the thumbs...

I don't think it's ATS-34, as Buck would be too proud of using premium steel not to put the appropriate stamp on the blade. Most likely yours is 420HC. Nothing wrong with that, I just got a NMIB regular 889 with 420HC and it's excellent. You may have paid for 420HC, instead of ATS-34, though which is :( . Not sure how to act now, that's up to you.

...Looks like a very "new" Gold member is the seller...Just joined in September...

the different type font is troubling...and even my regular buck/strider has an sb.4 stamped on the other side...

so it's not ats34...and it might not even be 420hc...need an opinion from a hardcore buck person here to confirm exactly what it is...

I am sitting here looking at a NIB Strider Buck Tarani.

On one side of the blade, it says "Strider Buck Tarani" with the logo between the Strider and the Buck. Just like yours, except mine says "Tarani" below "Buck".

On the other side of the blade, it has the flame symbol with "BOS" to the right of it, and "ATS-34 U.S.A." below it. It also says below that "SB.4 T".

Like someone else said, your font is different than mine.

I can take pics later if you are dieing to see it :), but my description covers it.

Your blade, pivot, and stippling otherwise look just like mine.

Edit: mine looks like the one below in post #13.

Wonder how the seller knew it was ATS-34??

Definitely the seller should be providing this and other answers.

He used the term "stone-washed." Isn't that for jeans instead of knives?

Stonewashed is a blade finish. ;)

Oh......ok.

Comparing with mine, I also see a difference in the sequence of the serrations.

Serration on mine is exactly like the orange-handled one pictured above.

The "mystery" Tarani serration is different on the ends.

I am in complete agreement with everyone here, and thank you for your input.

BTW: Those orange scales are awesome. Are they factory?

Well I have emailed the seller and requested that I be able to return the knife. Haven't heard back from him yet.

The plot thickens.

TrackerDan, I have one just like yours that I bought from the Buck Factory sale in 2006 or 2007. The box had a model number that was lined out in red. It did not have the BOS stamp or the "Tarani" under the SB logo. Might have been a built out or something and mine was marked as a blem. Price was $25. I carried that one to Iraq for my 08/09 tour.

stone wash is were the blades are in a cermic bead with
a degreaser/deruster wash liquid in a tub
normanly at buck the blades are polished once they leave the tub..
this is not the first blades i have seen with this finish..
but are odd to be in a handle and finished as a knife,,,
likely a dog track sale item

Was the Strider "stamp" different on early Strider model? The OP knife stamp is different than mine. Also no date code on the OP knife

i hope that is also the case here, and it is entirely plausible...thing is, it was sold as a 1st line item, and that ain't cool...seller ignorance is not an excuse; nearly all the blokes here in this forum KNOW THEIR KNIVES...we know what we have or don't have...

it's tough enough dealing with shady online drop shippers (as in THE BLADE SHOP/TAC. GUN ARMORY); now it's buyer beware with seller's on our own exchange...

One more thing: The "cheap" 889, like mine, has riveted standoffs. The ATS-34 Tarani has screws and can thus fully be disassembled. Difference between the pics is clearly visible.

Owww... And the scales: Clearly visible, the ATS-34 has G-10 handles as opposed to the "lesser" glass-reinforced nylon scales on the 889 and the OP's knife.

They also made some ATS-34s with the riveted standoffs. Mine is one of them.

Well the seller has agreed to take the knife back "minus shipping". Although I paid for the knife as X amount of dollars shipped. Personally I would think that what it costs me to send it back should in fact be the minus shipping part. So in effect he's dinging me twice.

I'll just be glad to get back what I can on this sideways deal.

Sounds like some of you have already figured out who it is and I'll let it go at that. Consider yourselves enlightened.

Thanks for all your help and Happy Holidays to you all,

Dan
