I am still pondering my choices and am still saving money so it may be a while before I am fully ready to buy. As far as other similar knives go, I like the shape and size of the BM 710, but I own one AXIS lock folder (530) and find it more problematic than a liner lock to close with one hand. I still like the 530 though and am confident in the lock up of the AXIS lock. I like the VG-10 in the SERE but really think that all these higher-end folders need to be in the top steel available. Not that VG-10 is not outstanding, but I feel that S30V might be expected in this price class (considering that Spyderco makes several of their popular high-end knives in this steel) I still feel that ATS 34, BG 42, 154 CM, and VG-10 are very acceptable though. I EDC a Victorinox Pioneer Farmer so the lack of ready slicing ability on the Buck/Strider makes little difference to me.
I will continue to look around for good deals on the Strider and other similar knives. I will also attempt to post about how this all works out and what I end up choosing. Thanks again.
