Buck Tempest Return

Hiya all

I "had" a Buck tempest which the tip broke off when pulling it out of a section of fencing. The knife was never ever used to prise anything. And it was a very clean break.

The blade was registered with Buck when I received it and went back a few days ago under warranty.

Anyone have experience (preferably from the UK where I am) or anywhere else as regards to Bucks response turnaround time? Thier site says within 4 weeks but I thought I would just ask anyway.

This was my EDC and TBH I miss the bloody thing :(

Cheers

Mav,
Normally Buck turns warranty work around a lot quicker than the four weeks they advertise. I live on the west coast and I get a knife back in about ten days. If you figure out what the time is for mail transit, you can figure about a week or so in the shop. Of course now that I've said that, watch them make a liar out of me!

ummm well being in the UK its a bit hard :)

I have a SOG seal Pup and a S&W HRT Bootknife...as well as a SOGs1T and a SOG TechBowie... oh and a couple of switchblades. But seeing as the UK laws suck its really hard to carry any of the others. That make sense to you?.

Apart from the switchblades this is my only real folder so in essence yes its my only EDC. I *could* carry some of the others but may find it hard to explain to the law.

Knife list...

SOG S1 Bowie x 2
SOG S1T x 1
SOG Daggert
SOG Seal 2000
SOG Seal Pup
Buck Tempest - gone back to buck
Couple of Swiss Army Knives
1 Genuine 1963 British Flickknife (switchblade)
1 S & W HRT Bootknife

All of the others I would

A) Never have justified reason to carry
B) Are well over the legal UK Size which can be carried (3 Inches)

I read posts from the US about guys "putting a SOG Tigershark in my backpack"

My answer is this

HE HE HE HE HE I BLOODY WISH!!!

Mav,
Where I live here in central Washington State, it is not uncommon to see a person walking through a shopping mall with a knife strapped to his belt. The knife is usually a 4" folder, but may also be a standard sheath knife of varying length. If one was to carry a bowie knife, it may raise a few eye brows but nothing more.

What Mike said.
I was carrying a Ka-Bar Tanto 5.25" fixed when I was "detained" by some of my city's Finest (read as police). I was detained as a "witness" when all I really did was pull my scoot over as I saw the police lights and, lucky me, happened to pull over right where this guy on a rice-burner bike happened to wreck.

Anyway, one of the four or five constables was kind enough to ask, as he was removing the knife from my sheath, if he could take possession of it during my account of the wreck. He asked, politely, if he could put it in my saddle bag. Yakked with me for about 45 min and then I went on my way.

Point is, here is the US, you may get a stare, and while some establishments prohibit knives, it seems like your 3" rule is extreme. Most of the family oriented places I go, if you carry a Buck 102 you'll prob just get a giggle.

When knives are outlawed, only outlaws will have knives. Oh, I think some other org uses a similar tag line already.

Anyway, look at pics of my EDCs on the top of this site:
http://www.mongoosemarv.com/buck.html

The knife I had on me at the time Five-0 had me is the second from the top.

Am guessing the only legal ones for you would be the CRKT and a 112 (which is my new fav EDC, but not in that pic).

Bummer. Well, at least you have great cuisine over there!!! LOL.

I feel for you Maverick. Just hope that never happens here.

So what happens when you camping or hiking?
Nothing over 3 inches under all circumstances except in the house?
Inquiring Goose wants to know...
Cheers...

The law states that you must have good reason to carry a knife up to 3" during any time of day. If you where caught in the woods camping with any of my SOGS then they would arrest you for it under the carrying an offensive weapon law.

If I was to take the law to its word then your question about the knives over 3" would be limited to being in the house or back garden.

In the UK recently there has been a increase in public stabbings and the Anti Knives lobbyists are asking to increase the prison sentence and now the Government are buckling under. In the UK at the moment there is a knife amnesty. In which you can hand in any knife with "no questions asked"

I think its really stupid that people think that only bad people carry knives. Good People do... I am a good person.

Hay Mav,

As you are a good person and would never violate UK laws. Send me your knives that have blades over 3". Then I'll tell everone what a good chap you are:D . Wow am I glad I live in the good old USA.

he he yeah right.... my beloved SOGs I think not.

But now I think I may have trouble explaining the Tempest when it returns should I get pulled by the law when carrying it. But hey... I would rather risk that than being threatened by some thug and not having a means of defending myself.

Yes in the UK these are tough times we live in....but for gods sake - until every "baddie" is locked up I will carry. I have the right to bear arms.... and I bloody well will if I need to.

Climbs off soap box... :)

But anyone from Buck reading this??? I want my Tempest Back!

Hang in there Mav, just think.... if you use the same reasoning as the gov does on guns and knives, at the rate that people are being killed by cars it won't be long before they'll be illegal.

What a nice guy you are John!!! LOL.

he he I justify myself as a nice carrier of a knife because.....

I only carry for defense and general use. Not to attack anyone.

They come at me with fists and I will return that favour. They come at me with a knife then I will do the same.....except my Buck (as all my knives really) are proper decent blades that will cut. Not bend like some of the knives I have seen carried by thugs before now... I doubt that they would peel a potato let alone do anything else. Whereas my knives will do what I want them to do - which is defend me.

I only use mine for slicing pizza and cleaning my finger nails.
