I had a worthless dog one time. I was whittling on the porch and I offered him a biscuit and was petting him when he bit me! That ingratiate never did much but eat and crap all over the yard, even the neighbors yard. After several times of that and the neighbors calling the animal service they picked him up and took him to the pound. They called to tell me my dog was there and I could pick him up after paying a fine. I asked if I had to pick him up and they said no but they would have to put him up for adoption and if nobody wanted him he would be euthanized. Always wondered if things worked out for ole blue.

See my response to st8yd right above this...
A discount card... really stud. Your bitching about a discount card given to you as a gift.?

So the knives you like aren't discounted with your shit discount card... well to others they might be of interest. Save your money, support the forum and become a member.

Not impressed with you that much either - stud.

something to be pointed out. Buck isnt going to compete with their dealer base on prices online. least at this point. they cant/wont match or undersell the bulk of their sales. that wouldnt be very smart. while I dont know I'm gonna assume they eliminate products that dont make sense for them to discount. we shouldnt forget it is a business to make money and support their employees and ownership. that said..

certain Bcci membership gets ya great discounts from the online Buck store and their buying program and tons of history and info. well worth the investment. discount gift card isnt good for ya maybe a Bcci membership is worth a look as a Buck fan. just a thought.

Lol. What a dick..
Whatever dude. For the record, I've joined numerous forums over the years. There's always at least one arrogant a-hole who thinks he knows better than the rest, and can't just sit idly by and keep his mouth shut. Guess I know who that is on this forum.

You could have had a constructive thread but you throw crap at the Buck forum you won’t get any sympathy but you will probably get some crap back. Your negative attitude and complain about a gift card! I can see why you don’t stay long.

yes Sir.

it really is a good and helpful bunch of folks here. who just like Buck as a company, their culture and their products. sometimes things aren't always so clear. not saying I'm right its just how I see it. only Buck management can say what or why etc. if they choose to, of course. I got no inside knowledge I'm just making assumptions.

Buck 501
Buck's price $71... DLT's price $49.99

Ranger LT
Buck's price $34.....DLT's $21.95

It's no secret that knife manufacturers put their knives up at their MSRP, while retailers price below that. This creates the obvious response of buyers purchasing from retailers for the discounted price. This gesture, in effect, gives consumers the option of buying direct. 25% off the above items creates a fairly level playing field, price-wise.

That said, I've received discount offers from Buck on numerous occasions. They carry the same restrictions as described earlier in the thread, and I find them annoying. Why? Because they are always sent to encourage me to complete a purchase of something I'd been viewing...and those items are always ineligible for the discount. What's the point in sending a discount offer to complete the purchase of the custom shop knife I configured, with a disclaimer that the discount can't be used for the custom shop?

He came looking for a reaction and got one. We've seen it before.

Fact is, there is something special about buying direct from a manufacturer if it means something to you. Getting a package addressed from Buck is special, memorable. You don't mind going out to dinner at an overpriced restaurant to make a memory or buying a souvenir on vacation to have a keepsake. Same thing, at least for some.

Well said JB. I agree that Buck shouldn't undersell their dealers, however, the core point is still valid. The 25% discount from MSRP doesn't bring it low enough to compete with dealer prices. That won't make their dealers mad at least. However, most won't pay more to buy from Buck direct when they can pick it up cheaper at a retail store (and get to pick their knife [wood grain]), or cheaper at other online sources.

Buck most assuredly gets more profit from a direct sale from their website than from a dealer sale. So how can they (and we) drive more direct sales without competing with dealers. It could be discounts on their limiteds and CKS offerings to loyal customers. It won't cannibalize sales from the dealers as long as you can't "configure" one of their exclusives through the CKS.

Just my 2 cents,
Rich

I disagree, based on the few knives I checked. Of the four, two were a few dollars over after the 25%... but two were a few dollars under. Granted, it was a very small sample size; but I didn't care enough to pursue it further.
I agree that it wasn't Buck's goal to undercut dealers; but a 25% discount offering certainly brings their prices into a competitive range.

I think the OP made a good point that maybe was articulated wrong. Or just taken wrong by some.

When I got my first 25% off card I was excited and kept it in a safe place. When I made my next order I tried to use it and was disappointed that what I wanted wasn’t included.

Then I realized like the OP, the knives that it could be used for I could get cheaper from the dealers. Plus in my case I already had all the standard Buck knives I needed.

So I shrugged my shoulders thought “Why did they bother?” and threw the card away. No point saving it, and no point complaining about it.

I honestly was just happy to have new blades on my old knives.
