Buck: Their heat treat with S30V or S35VN? Also... the 119 or 120 for that matter?

I wonder how the new stuff holds up to the older models. Maybe I should look for an old model 105 on eBay.
the heat treat methods on 420hc haven't changed since Paul bos retired in 2010 range. older steel was 425m and 440c i. that model...just different steels. all these steels used Paul B's heat treat. the current 420hc still does. nothing has changed.

I own more Bucks than many. old and new. in about every steel they've ever used. Bucks 420hc is still heat treated industry best.

Do you happen to own a 105 pathfinder or 105 compadre? Don’t know which would hold up better for tougher outdoor tasks.

yes many of both in different steels too.

talkin standard current steels.....5160 on 104 compadre is very tough, but so is the 420hc in the 105 Pathfinder. the 104 is built more as a camping type task knife...so i lean that way myself, but then105 has been around a long time as a hunting and general use knife. both should work well for most cutting tasks.....both have a lifetime warranty for normal use.

now if you're talking batonning....id pick the froe. of those two ya mentioned id lean towards the 104, but it wouldn't be my first choice for that task.

I have the 102 Pro which is very nice for short hikes and food prep. But I was looking for something that handle some more abuse outdoors. I’ll keep poking around on Buck’s website. I don’t know much about all their models.
