Buck to introduce "NEW" knife steels

I spent about a thousand bucks on Bucks last year and I'm going to go about 400 this year. Oh well things are tough all over........:D

I think vg-10 will be the steel used. Buck dosen't use that on any knife now. It is a very good steel, and that could be the ticket.

THANK YOU CJ!
wow guy i could... well i wont go in to what i do when suddenly happyt
but ask Joe and John.. hee hee hee !

oh and i will be in Orlando about that time :D:D ?

any way here are some links to some good steel info...

and as long as we are dreaming >> i would love to have a blade of :
VASCO WEAR
an air-hardening, cold-work die steel developed to provide high resistance to wear at exceptionally good levels of toughness. It also has the high compressive strength necessary for maximum resistance to upsetting. Its many uses include such applications as thread-rolling dies, punches and blanking dies.
I have heard do you grinding first or you wont get it ground later! :D

You know Rick, it just might be VG-10. The price range for knives with is all over the place. I would be very pleased to have a Buck knife with VG-10. More than pleased actually.

110 + D2 = Happy Happy Happy!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Me too. If fact, I've been cutting up for D2 to the point of talking to Chuck and PMing CJ. I just assumed it was not the one since it's somewhat expensive and they've worked with it before. Let me mimic you and say Happy Happy Happy if it D2.

I love the interest here and buddy Dave fret thyself not because the 110 will never lose the honor of being marked MADE IN USA.

I am reviewing our 2009 catalog and have so much I want to share with you guys but really have to wait until closer to shot show (mid january in orlando). Can't reveal our hand too soon. I will say that for 2009 we are introducing 4 entire families of knives that are made in the usa and one single model that is imported...we debuted the samples to our salesforce last week and got two thumbs up all around!

4 new families of knives:D. Now I can't wait till the shot show. Dave as you will be there and I will not:(....please keep us posted and share some photo's;).

Buck Knives "one a month is all we ask"

Isn't VG-10 protected by the Japanese, not allowing the raw steel to be exported but only the finished blades?
I had seen reference to this on other threads

:D

So long as the 300 series is amongst them- I've wanted a US-made wood 371 for a while. :)

I'm sure looking forward to seeing what's new in January :)

With all the wishing going on in this thread, I'm more than a little surprised no one has mentioned good-old carbon steel like 1095 or 52100? That said though, I'd be happy to see a 110 in D-2.

I'd still like a 301 in 154CM. Even at the risk of BCCL shocking the Buck employees.

Just make me an original 3 pin model 501 with the original burgundy micarta and D2/Bg42/CPM154 or the original 440! Oh yeah, and call it the "Esquire"!
I'm looking forward to seeing what the new steels and models will be!

I sure like the Buck's in s30v and stag, from Cabelas. Alaskan Guide series is about as good as it gets. These are like custom knives with such fine materials being used. I am going to start buying quite a few buck knives with stag. I like the blades as they are. I field dressed all my deer with Buck knives. They are very good. The smaller folders are beautiful too.

I love the s30v stag. I have two. 1 for carry for for looking. They are awsome.

I got off the phone to a maker of a tools that advertise "made in USA" very prominently and found out their "raw forgings" come from China. I know that the most reloading presses are from castings made in China. I have also read that ALL brass is made in China now and there are no brass makers in the US any longer. Making brass is very "dirty" with the vaporization of the zinc so the EPA has made it where the US brass foundrys had to shut down. Supposedly the reason why reloaders are having issues with reloading "US" brass is that the Chinese are cutting corners and the brass has impurities in it that causes failures. Thats is the reason taget shooter use Norma and Laupa from Europe. So IF I have my information correct the brass bolsters on that 110 is from China and so the steel will be soon also.

The 110 handle sides are sintered and made in the good old USA

I sure hope so. I really like vg-10 too. My Al Mar knives are vg-10, and I get them shaving sharp. I think whatever the people at Buck do, their knives are so darn good, that improving the steel will only make the knives even more desirable. The 420 steel they use is in my opinion very good. It holds a razor sharp edge, and is excellent. Getting better than that is something to look forward to. I just can't wait. Maybe somebody can give us a little clue, to appease some knife fanatics out here. I know I will never tell, if somebody let something slip as to what steel was going to be used. As far as letting the cometition seeing your hand, don't worry Buck has a following like no other. These are knives that have been owned by many people for many years. The Buck lovers out there just can't wait.
