Greetings all,

Back in the late 80's I dated a woman whos uncle worked for Buck in San Diego. He gave me a couple knives as gifts during the time I knew him but I can't find any information about one of them. All of the knives he gave me were in original boxes and I have never used any of them as I viewed them more as collectibles so tey are in like-new condition. The one in question shows it to be an Ultimate Fillet Model No. 122. It's a fillet knife with a wooden handle. Anyone recognize this one?

Regards,

The Ultimate Fillet was sold to some specialty dealers such as Bass Pro and is the same knife otherwise as the kraton handled 123 fillet knife of that era. I have seen one or two with mirror polished blades but I think they were prototypes. I think the wood handles knives are impregnated birch and I remember them to be very attractive. That being said, I would much prefer to use kraton when filleting fish and suspect that most fishermen would feel the same way. Thus, the Ultimate models cost more and were less user friendly than the kraton handled knives.

You are correct in your recollection of the knife, it does look like the handle is birch and probably would be less desirable as a actual working tool than the 123. What I'm trying to determine is whether it is worth keeping or if I should consider selling it. I have several other fillet knives that are, like the 123, more utilitarian.
