When did this knife, specifically the 192, go into production? I have a friend who says he got his in 1999, but I didn't think they had been made for that long. Thanks.

Thanks! One other question: the tang is stamped '192C' with the 'C' kind of square. Does this indicate steel type? My friend believes it is 420HC.

this is the model year stamp...
1999
That year would be 420HC, Good stuff :D

I like the 192. I have a few of them in stag with blades cut outs.

...It would be 420HC but the "squared" off C would indicate year of blade production...1999...

The dash is - 1992 model year. I am unsure if it would be 420HC or 425M? Buck switched somewhere in there... Maybe someone else would know more? Buck_110... anyone... help me...please... :D

From 1986 to present Buck uses different stamp shapes (symbols) to signify which model year a knife was from.

Click this link and read about halfway down the page, Good luck!

...I have no idea when 692's were first made but "folding" knives with a dash symbol or - would be a 1992 blade production year...I'm really more of a "folder" kine guy...Gooser's been takin' them typin' lessons I'll bet and is gettin' super quick lately I see...LMBO... :D
