I was at my local knife place yesterday and browsing through the knife displays when I noticed he Buck Vantage series had finally come in. Not wanting to spend to much cash I opted for the Avid rather than the pro. I was pleasently surprised when I handled the knife, I wasn't expecting it to be crap or anything but I didnt think it would be quite so attractive. Its really a great knife, light weight, great fit and finish, smooth action and a great lockup. My new EDC for sure, Im even gonna go pick up a spare before they sell out.

Great job Buck.

The Vantage models are fantastic! When you go to buy your spare you might want to look into getting the Pro version right away too ;) (It will save you gas and time in not running back again) :D

I actually don't think Im going to get the pro, I want a cheap(ish) EDC, although if I happen to find one on sale I will definatly pick one up (my local shop has pretty good sales from time-to-time).

On a side not, is this thing really 4oz? It seems lighter.

LOL, you really can't go wrong with any of the Vantages. The select, Avid, and Pro are all very nice. They are addicting though...

Or some hybrids

Yes, I got the small version (340) and I really dig the paperstone handle. They (Buck) need to use it in more knives. I think if has the same feel and grip as the G-10 used in this series of knives.

I bought the Avid vantage before I bought the Pro. I carried the Avid as a
EDC for a few weeks before the pro. The only negative I can think
of for the Avid as a EDC is that the Dymondwood handles get kind
of slippery in some situations. The G-10 scales of the Pro have it
all over the Avid in that regard. If you don't have to worry about
sweaty hands, or working around moisture the Vantage should definitely
fill the bill.
Congrats on your new Avid.
BTW...........not sure it's like this everywhere, but at my Bass Pro, the Pro is only 10 dollars more then the Vantage.

Regards Sonny

Friday night Vantages. My buddy Tom and his wife stopped over for a couple this evening. Figgered I take Vantage of the situation for a photo op since he was carrying his Avid.

Me with 347 Pro and the 345 Dymondwood left, my daughter Kaylee with 342 Pro in the center and Tom with 346 Avid right.

Nice picture, Fritz. Like that Dymondwood 345. What is with the thing on Kaylee's wrist?

The Vantage is simply awesome, in all it's guises Select, Avid, and Pro (didn't know about hybrids, that is so cool).

I got to try a Paradigm and left much to be desired. I love the simplicity of the Vantage.

The Vantages are great, one of the best EDC knives ever. I have both the "normal" avid and a factory error avid with G10 scales. Both are wonderful, though the dymondwood one is slightly lighter believe it or not. I have been eyeing the Paradigm Avid, but don't know if I'd be happy with the extra weight, it's another ounce heavier, which isn't much I guess. Like the metal bolster look. Oh well, I gotta try one eventually.

Just for the heck of it, I got out a new little digital scale that I recently bought and weighed a few examples. I did each one twice to check the repeatablity of the scale and it was the same each time.

Vantage Pro--4.23 oz.
Vantage Avid--3.93 oz.
Vantage Select (Dymondwood)--4.05 oz.
Bond Arms Vantage Avid--3.90 oz.

Paradigm Pro--4.93 oz.
Paradigm Avid--4.66 oz.

The top one is a 345 Plumberdv gave to my son Tommy (sweet handles)
The bottom one is my 346 that has seen a lot of use for the last 6 months.
The Vantage is really one heck of a knife.:D:thumbup:

Have the 346...Very nice blade! I am going to smooth the liner edges as they are just a hair sharp. I dont notice it until i use the flipper to deploy the blade and my finger hits againgst them. again not too bad but i notice it...so ill smooth it over. Only (VERY MINOR) do differently in this one...she is a keeper!
