FortyTwoBlades is right, i would have first posted this in the buck sub forums.
i don't know what the initial issue was exactly (i didn't see the knife), but the end result was that buck upgraded you to a vantage pro large and it's in good working order except that there is grim on the G10. a quick cleaning with rubbing alcohol should solve that. i understand that your experience was not ideal, but it seems to be handled fairly well and it seems to be more of an isolated incident (i can't recall an issue with G10 grim). after you use rubbing alcohol, tell us if everything is ok.
Honestly, I never thought of the Buck forum, but I'm not sure it would have made much difference. Many general forum subscribers seem to know Buck quite well, judging from the responses to my thread, for which thanx, BTW.
Over years I have purchased several Bucks for myself and as gifts to friends, and have always been favorably impressed with their quality and value. This was my first need for warranty service and it was less impressive.
Well, after a quick trip to the market for alcohol, I used it on the scales, followed by soap and water. Cleaning wasn't that quick, but they look a lot better. After WD 40 for the metal parts, issues are resolved and I can move on with my life without contacting Buck any further. I suppose you could say this worked out okay.
