Thinking about getting one of these budget can only get one right now what are the thoughts of the fourm from any one that has either as to your thoughts.
Buck S30V with BOS heat vs kershaw composite 13C26/CPM-D2?

Tough one. I have both and carry both. Both are great knives though and you can't go wrong with either. I'd have to go with the Junkyard Dog II based purely on the ergos. It feels better in my hand than the Vantage Pro.

I'll go with the Vantage Pro on this one. I like the JYDII, but I think the Buck would make a better EDC due to the clip design and somewhat smaller size.

I really like the clip on the Vantage Pro as well...I knocked the "shine" off mine and you hardly notice it clipped.

The one thing that bugs me about the Buck is that I can't seem to get it centered when closed.

The Buck doesn't flip as well as the JYD, but as far as the size the Buck is a better EDC, with a bitter clip.

well out of the box i would get the vantage pro, if i were to get a JYD 2 an STR lowrider clip would be a must IMO.

I have both and can easily recommend both. For EDC I'd get the Vantage Pro. It is samller and more pocket-friendly wih a nice deep carrying clip. For hard-use, I'd get the JYDIICB before the Vantage Pro. Not that the Buck can't do hard use. It's just that the ergos on the JYDIICB is superb IMHO. Plus it's bigger with beefier liners and liner lock.

I love my vantage pro. It's an interesting knife. It's large without feeling large. I used my daily while working in a warehouse to cut pallet wrap and other odd chores.

As and EDC "knockin' around knife", the Buck might be better since it sits so low due to its clip position. Great knife, slides in the jeans with no problems.

I carry my JYD II comp as a work knife though, and really like it better. I like the ergos of the handle a lot better, and for heavier work, it is almost like using a sheath knife. It is that sturdy. The D2 seems to be the right choice for a cutting edge as it holds one forever, and is easy to sharpen.

Also, I sticks up a little higher than the Buck in my pocket so it makes getting the knife out much easier for my fat fingers. And I am impressed with the smooth opening every time I use it.

You can always send it back to Buck and have it fixed. Excellent customer service, they'll either repair it or replace it! Or, you might be able to adjust it with a torx screwdriver. I actually had to tighten mine because it opened too fast. Where I live, if caught with open carry, it may be considered a gravity knife depending on the officer! I retired my twenty plus year old Delica with this baby! :D

The Buck would be a better slicer, with it's thinly ground blade. Ergos are fine with either one. There's more weight behind the blade of the Kershaw, so it would probably be a personal choice with your ergonimics, and performance requirements making the difference between two great choices.

Not on your menu, but worth looking at would be the S30V Spyderco Native.

I took it apart, and was able to get more centered then how it came, but it's still off bit and rubs slightly. Off doesn't bother me too much but, rubbing does. I'll give them a call and see what can be done.

I bought a Mayo TNT that had a blade that rubbed. I sent it back and Buck fixed it right up..and quickly.

I much prefer the JYD series of knives. I have no problem EDC'ing the larger size. I often EDC my ZT knives. When carrying a knife for EDC I would prefer to have a little larger blade than needed than a blade to small or light for a possible job I may encounter at work or home. The JYD also feels so "right" in my hand.

With the CB model I feel the steel used in the Buck becomes less of a factor than the regular 1725 JYD II. Even considering the steel used, I prefer the JYD II.

I agree with many of the posts in here, but thought I'd post my opinion too...

I have both and love both of these knives. The Buck is probably a bit better for edc as it carries deeper in the pocket and is a bit thinner so it's less noticable to carry. That being said, The JYD is one of my favorite knives overall out of all the ones I have due to the way it feels in hand and because IMO it's just plain cool looking. Plus it's pretty heavy duty so it'll hold up to use pretty well.

Think you'll be safe with either choice, but I'd have to recommend getting both!! lol

Agreed. I don't own this knife, but I've handled one. The knife looks so funky, but once you put it in your hand, you'd be surprised how good it feels. I think it's one of the most ergonomic handles I've ever held.

I have both as well and love both. Actually I have different models of each: The Buck vantage select and the Kershaw Ti SG2 JYD. However they are the same size and everything so it doesn't really matter. The JYD is one of my all time favorite knives. I, unlike most people, actually did not like the looks of this knife when I first got it but after using it and playing with it for a while I just cannot put it down! If fits my hand better than any folder I've yet to hold. The Buck is not quite as ergonomic to me but it is more manageable in the pocket if you're planning to carry it every day. As far as the steel goes I'd say you probably won't see much of a difference between the two. However there is not much cpm-d2 out there so you may wanna grab some while you can.

On a side note, does anyone know if the Titanium SG2 Junkyard dog has the same blade thickness as the normal and composite model?
