Buck Vantage Pro vs Kershaw 1725cb

My primary EDC knife is a Buck Vantage pro, with ghetto-wave. I like the JYD's (I have several modells :)), but it's too big to me for EDC purpose. (Local law restricted the blade lenght at 8 cm.)
JYD2 is better for hard use, but the Vantage is an excellent slicer.

Some Vantage suffers manufacturing problems with the liner lock (too loose), but it can be fixed with a slightly thicker pin.

The steel liners are not polished, so they rusts easily even in normal EDC. (It can be fixed easily with smooth sandpaper. ;))

I suggest get them both. :)

Nice pics. If only they used larger diameter pivots, the Buck Vantage would be perfect. You can modify the knife to install custom pivots though.

Well, the Bucks aren't quite the same blade thickness at the hilt. The Mayo TNT is .125" while the Vantage Pro is .121", both very similar, S30V blade-wise, other than that. The Ti framelock Mayo TNT is overall thinner than the SS liner-lock/Micarta scaled Vantage Pro. The latter went up from $75 to $95 MSRP, while the Mayo TNT is not in the 2010 catalog, but was still $350 MSRP last year.

The Kershaws, 1725CB and 1725SG2, are the same .146" thick at the hilt, their general shape being similar, save the laminated edge (D2 in the CB and SG-2 in the SG2.). Obviously, I have all four - and a blemish low production fuselage pattern 1725CB, like the Ti handled 1725SG2, except in grey G10. It looks a lot better than the plain Jane 1725CB in it's black G10, which otherwise is identical. All four still pop hairs, despite lots of use, the 1725SG2 actually making cuts while I am still thinking about it - it is uber sharp!

Obviously, if money is no object - and you are lucky, as they are hard to find, the 1725SG2 is a hard act to follow. For the economy minded wanting a fantastic pocketable S30V knife, that Vantage Pro is the answer. It is the best value in a pocketable EDC knife. I love my JYDII's - but they lay in my back pocket (I remove clips upon arrival here.). The Vantage Pro is just more sheeple-friendly, too. Now, need a larger knife? Get the JYDII - they really are two different sized animals.
