I know it is old news, but man what a knife.
Non-knife looking clip.
Nice heft
Premium g-10 scales.
S30V Bos treated steel
flipper and oval thumb hole opener.
Made in the USA.

What a home run knife this is. I'm surprised it isn't more popular. I guess most of us are off chasing the next one (i am guilty of that! :D)

I got mine when it first came out. The blade is off centered a bit, and one of the scales is a little short. I decided though that for the money, it was a bargain. I did not want to cost Buck money by sending it in for those cosmetic details, I want them to make some money, I am amazed at the materials.. quality... and that they made it in the USA for the money.

Thanks Buck!

I have a Vantage Avid in my pocket right now. You're right they are great knives.I plan to buy a few more for Xmas gifts.I see a lot of high dollar Bench Made knives, that to me are not as good a knife as the Buck Vantage.

First post in the Buck forum. Picked up a Vantage Pro last week. Really impressed so far. Blade is perfectly centered. Makes a great sound when I flick it open. Came fairly sharp, touched it up to make it hair popping sharp. Picked in store at Bass Pro, $45. A bargain in my opinion.

I bought a small select (340) and loved it next came the full size vantage pro I love that knife, the Avid, select, and select blue stone soon followed. I think I want to get all of the smaller sizes too. Literally one of the best clips and great blade shapes for me. I think I have found my long term EDC.

Thanks Buck.

I've been using my Vantage Avid almost daily. I finally dulled it enough to need a touch-up. Less than 5 minutes on a small stone, and a few swipes on a plain strop brought it right back to a crisp edge. I was a little surprised at how easy it was.

The other thing that doesn't get mentioned often is how the blade geometry is optimized for real cutting performance. The high hollow grind with very thin edge works very well.

I love the Vantage pro 347 so much that I bought the new small Vantage pro 342 as soon as it came out. I also have the small select 340. The whole Vantage line is awesome!

I recently got an Advantage Pro as well. As american knives are very expensive here I paid about $100 for it. It is a very nice knife, beautifully designed. It cuts quite good. The blade on mine is off center as well, and more than just a bit. I accepted that when I bought it, I just wanted the knife and it was the last one in the store. Sending it back to Buck would be too much of a hassle for me, does anyone here know if this can be fixed by me?

The Vantages are really wonderful, Buck hit a home run with these. I have an Avid and just got the small select and I think I love it even more. I want to get the small Avid when it comes out. As to centering, if you take the scales off and loosen up the liner screws a little you can push either liner forward or back and then tighten down the screws and check if you need more/less adjustment. I think the reason so many of these are out of line is Buck tightens the steel liners down a little askew and it causes the problem, but it's an easy fix usually, and recent ones seem much better in this regard so maybe they have a new jig for assembly or something.

I have to agree.
Real functional folder, S30V, great price.
Buck really does give you a lot for your buck.
Love mine.

I've been looking for my next knife fix. I'm going to get a couple different sizes and flavors of the Vantage, thanks for the good idea!

Marlinaholic,

Just disassembled and reassembled a folder for the first time. The blade is centered now. Also cleared out the grit that got in while gardening.
Thanks.

Glad it worked for you, I haven't met a Vantage I couldn't straighten out yet and I've had about 4 so far

Welcome to some new and less frequent names here. I agree with all that is said, great knives. I got the Pro right away, figgering on getting one of the new paperstone 345's. I think Buck oughta sell scales as a stand alone option so you could put paperstone on an avid or dymondwood on a Pro and so forth.

My only surprise is that grelcars was only fairly sharp. I have an off center blade and that has been a common critique but no one has said they came less than scary sharp. Mine was by far the sharpest knive I ever pulled out of a box. Glad you could take care of it lickity split:thumbup:

Good advise Marlin

I just got a large and small Pro Vantage. Excellent knives but a cannot get the flipper to work on the small one. the large works fine and is very smooth. These knives have outstanding edge geometry and are sharp with a very nice high satin finish. You have to give Buck credit for a USA made G10 S30V knife that is well made.

Mines the same way, maybe its the weight and length of the little one. It doesnt have enough there to fully open it. Good enough though :D
I think over time it will smooth in. It is honestly the best forty some bucks I ever spent on a knife! I love the Vantage lineup!!!

I agree postfallsidaho. I had these knives about a week. My finger got so sore from trying to open the small Vantage I took a break so the soreness would clear up. I can get the small opened about every third try now. These knives are great buys for G10 S30v knives. I also, bought a Max Bucklite med. and a Canoe. The Bucklite has impressed me for a $17.00 knife and the Canoe is a good buy as well. All are very sharp.

I got a small vantage select recently and it was a real stickler to flip open as the liner lock was putting way too much pressure on the blade. You can carefully bend it slightly outward to reduce this, and that will fix the problem, but you don't want to over do it or the knife won't lock up properly. Once I fixed the liner problem it flips as easy as my Skylines and locks up totally solid.
