Buck Vantage Pro

I have purchased the 347 with s30v steel and the smaller version with 420 steel and like them veery much. The smaller one was bought past sept for $19.99 @ big box store in Austin and fit and finish was best on it. It has rubber grips and fits my pocket a little better. The larger 347 has micarta type panels which I love, and the blade finally dulled after about a 100 boxes, but I touched it up with my stone and it is wicked sharp and hasn't needed any retouch yet. I paid full msrp of $70 or $79 @ a local gunshow only to find you can get them for near half that online. I don't mind, I patronized a mom and pop knife dealer. Now, the blade was slightly off center which I only learned of this being a problem after reading about it on this forum:D .... anyways, I took my little hex tool and slightly tightened the hex nuts, and I guess it corrected the off-centerness because the blade is nice and straight when closed or open now. I wasn't trying to fix that problem, I just wanted the blade to be tighter when opened fully and I inadvertantly corrected it I guess:) Two thumbs up in my experience.

runninmike.........I also noticed what you mentioned. When I got my
Avid, it was perfectly centered. I wanted to see if I could get the
blade to open a little easier so it would open with just the flipper.
I noticed that as soon as I turned the pivot screw just a hair, the blade
started going off center. I just turned it back just a little to center.
It should loosen up a little in another week or so though.
Regards Sonny

Sonny,
mine was kind of the same except I just slightly put some tightening on it and good to go! Maybe half a turn. I love it.
Best, Mike

Hey thanks for the welcome, good to be here. I have read a bunch of threads already and it's a treasure trove here for sure, so much info and good times await. lots of great photos too.

I like this Vantage pro a real lot. My only complaint is knit picky perhaps but the main blade pin and screw seem undersized. I'd like to see twice the beef there but hey, it's probably just find. Rest of knife is near perfect, one of my favorites. Price can't be beat. Carried it all day clipped into my pants pocket and barely even noticed it, super light and ergonomic.

Drinking a summit now so Cheers!

I called Bass Pro this morning, to see if they had the Vantage Pro in stock.
The young fella, didn't know, so I asked would you mind looking for me.
He comes back on the phone and says oh yeah we got a bunch here, I said great! I'll drive the 1 1/2 hrs in and pick one up after work.

So after work the wife and I headed in to Calgary, with me thinking bout this pro in my pocket :D On arrival the Missus heads her way, and me straight up to the cutlery counter. Theirs no one working the counter, so I start looking through the glass, and see an empty stand with Vantage Pro on it
then I see another stand with Vantage Avid its also empty, my heart sinks.

Finally I get the attention of a clerk at the gun counter, and ask if he could help me, he says only for a minute, I say I'm wanting a Vantage pro, but the stand is empty. He says that means were sold out dude.
I couldn't help it and replied F@#$ then trying to stay cool, I asked could you please have a look in the cupboard, just in case.

It was like waiting an eternity, and he says here's a box with Vantage Pro on it, my heart racing I yell Yes!!
First thing I do as the above posters is look for the mfg date, its good! 03-24-10. Open the box, its not a Pro but an Avid,I check blade allinment its perfect and so is the lock.
Its not a Pro, but I'll tell you what, first of all its a Buck, and its a Vantage, and I'm darn glad after a 3 hr round trip at least I have one.
Oh.. the knife is a keeper for sure its a perfect edc carry for me.
I must also say, last month I purchased a BM Rift which is a lot more money and more Cadillac than the Advantage, but I'm wayyy more excited with the Buck. Thats life I guess ;)

:D......I know the feeling. Some of these sales people are just horrible, and
unknowledgeable about the things they sell. I've felt the urge more then once to strangle somebody in that situation.
Glad you at least got the Avid......It's a Great knife.
Regards Sonny

Walmart has the WORST sales people. Three times I was shocked to find good sales people at Walmart!

the Avids are great knives so it is worth dealing with the jerks to get one!

My Vantage Pro is from May 2009. I bought it last April, but I'm a bit further away from the source. The blade was so much of center that it touched the liner. With some tips from the Buck subforum I managed to get the blade almost centered. When I see the prices you guys pay for them I almost weep, for me it was 75 euros.
But before you think I'm whining, I'm very happy with it. It has gotten a lot of pocket time, I had to resharpen it a couple of times and was able to get it back to factory sharpness no problem.
It opens easily when I'm wearing gloves and feels good in the hand. It has replaced the 110 (too bulky and too difficult to open) and the alpha dorado (too beautiful for rough use) as EDC.

I got my Buck Vantage Pro this February, I think it was dated September 09 or July 09. Blade was off centered. I took knife into pieces and put it back together (at this point I became surprised the construction of Vantages contruction and quite impressed) and blade is now fully centered and lock engages nearly perfectly center.

Its my allround house chore knife. I 'm considering the smaller Vantage Pro for EDC.

I'm gonna have to grudgingly admit, Buck is kicking hind tail with these things. I landed one and seen what the hype was. American made. Contoured G10 scales. Factory edge S30V that touches up on the white Sharpmaker stones to nice sharpness. Solid lock. Halfway decent clip. Very nice opening hole. All in all, a bargain for the 50 dollar selling price. (One penny above that and I'd be singing a diff song).

But for now, the Buck Vantage Pro is a sweet entry level piece for folks looking to elevate to a premium bladesteel and handle material with a pocket clip carry system and thumb opening (with flipper option). Nice piece. I must admit, the only reason I scored one was because I heard Bos was retiring and I don't have any of his blades. His heat treatment of S30V seems (so far as I can tell) to be good to go. Sad to see him go.

I got one of the earliest ones. It has poor blade centering.
But at this price, with these materials and heat treat, I love this knife.
It is an AMAZING value. Contoured and milled G-10, S30V with Paul Boss heat treat. Low ride clip, thumb hole and flipper!
One of my favorites
