Buck Vantage?

I dont think that 342 is made anymore. On BHQ I believe they have discontinued listed for it I have the Select 340 as my EDC now and I do like it. I also bought the Pro versions int he small and large. I dont carry them though, im on the search for an extra 342 to use as an EDC. Also after the rosewood avid in the small but its like impossible.

Vantage pro is great edc, tookba razor edge and keeps it. My only problem was the flipper was sharp enough to wear holes in back pocket so rounded it off.

They discontinued the old vantage pro and avid models. The old models had scales made entirely of G-10 or Dymondwood. The new ones have a G-10 or Dymondwood inlay in a plastic scale. Kind of a drag...

I don't like mine. Lots of design complaints and lots of quality control issues. I'd expand but honestly recommend searching because my experiences and opinions are far from irregular on these knives.

Give one of the Vantages a shot. I've had, and still have, 5 or 6 of them and really like 'em. My buddy, a concrete laborer, also has two that uses heavily at work. They've held up extremely well especially at the $30ish price point. I have a small as well, it's way too small for me. I'd recommend handling them both to see which you like better. Hell, send me your address and I'll mail you my mini to try out for a bit if you don't have ready access to a knife shop.

This is true, the fit and finish is all over the map. You may get a good one, or you may get an absolute dud.

i got the small one because it weighed 2.6 oz., making it a good piece of gear for light backpacking. also because it complies with the local city ordinance. I removed the clip to make it slimmer. When I wear Levis, I carry it in that little pocket at the top of the right-hand front pocket.

I have a large and small select. They were both pretty nice; no real issues. Get yourself a $5 T6 driver, or maybe less for a L-wrench so you can disassemble and tune up the knife if need be. They are pretty simple and easy to maintain.

I agree, they make pretty good pocket knives if you take off the clip.

What ever knife you decide on, try a Bucklite Max medium. You will EDC this one.

Looks like a good EDC folder, any opinions on it?

I'm not even considering the Pro because it costs too much for me right now, but the Avid in rosewood and the Force look nice.

Also, is the large or the small better for EDC?
What are your daily needs for a knife?

It doesn't flip great but is flippable. More importantly when opened its got great ergos, incredible clip and a very usable blade shape. Totally disappears in pocket. I have mine zip tie waved.

Thanks for the advice everyone.

@Kueh,

It won't be used very heavily, but I need it to open fast and one handed (I like Assisted Opening knives) since I'm usually working around twine, farm equipment, and animals. I was leaning toward either a CRKT IgnitorT, a Kershaw of some kind, or a Buck Rush. I'm currently EDCing a Kershaw Chive, but need something a bit bigger.

This thread caused me to purchase a dymondwood large and paperstone small Vantages.

I have the Vantage Select Large and it feels good in the hand. Real nice blade shape, holds a great edge, centered, and disappears into the pocket.
I think I paid $30 for it and a great bargain knife for me. I don't flip, but the smaller hole works for me in a controlled deployment.
