BUCK Vantage

I just said I wasn't "pissy" but thanks for your maturity "OH, WELL" whats that? dont start a fight Dave...

You guys are amazing, You can argue but look at the knives, yes the paradigm has a few extra screws and springs but the blades are the same with the exception of a hole in the vantage. The shape of the handles are identical. The Paradigm has a different locking system, yes, but all the paradigm is, is a Vantage with extras. And to EEE how do you know you cant interchange the blades. Have you tried, if not you dont know, if you have than you think the same way I do, because you tried... Put any model # on it you want, you can dress up a monkey but its still a monkey...

Yes I tried....maybe you have a special Paradigm:D

So you have the Dymondwood and the paperstone handled versions? What about the "glass reinforced nylon" handle?
The Avid has the Dymondwood handle along with 13C26 Sandvik steel, the Pro model has the G10 handles and S30V steel.
Love 'em all...the only one I don't have is the paperstone.
Cheers,
Russ

Where does one find the 13C26 versions?????

I ordered mine direct from Buck, otherwise they are available online.
No local shops carry the Sandvik models by me... :(

Thanks guys. Will check out the online sources. I thought I had looked before, and didn't see them. Will try again. And the Buck web specials page.

The Paridigm is a Vantage and its Avid has Blue Micarta scales. The Vantages are all real cool. I prefer the Avids, you get upgraded steal and a nice handle material, still at a reasonable price. I have several. Surprisingly enough I just picked up a 341 Vantage Avid Charcole Diamond. Its the smaller Vantage and I like it because it fits so well in pocket. You dont even realize its there.

Does anybody still have the issue of off center blades with the vantages? The 341 was off to the right side a little, not quite rubbing but close. I tightened the blade screw but it makes it hard to open. Does any body have this issue and what can be done.

Yup, I have an Avid and a Pro, both with off-center blades out of the box. :(

I know that Buck will fix 'em up, but I also have some knives for the Spa, so they will all go in at once.

Just got another Vantage Pro last week. I had one last yr & traded it off, but am glad I got another one. It's surprisingly nice. Smooth flipper, good ergos, nice size, low-rider clip, & how can one not like Bos HTed S30V, & the price? I've handled other ones & sure like the ones with Sandvik steel & diamond wood scales, but am happy with the one I have.

As to the Vantage vs Paradigm, I can see the Paradigm as a version of the Vantage, however, it has a different lock mechanism (Opens/closes differently & has bolsters).

If you have the right tool you can tighten the blade pivit pin just a hair and that should correct it if its not too bad. I did just that and mine are centered.

I tried that before with no joy, MB, but perhaps I was just having an off day. I'll give it another try and let ya know.

Imho the slightly off center blade of the Vantage,(in the closed position) is not really an issue unless it's rubbing the liner. My Avid is the same way and when I first got it I thought maybe something was wrong with it but after spending hours thinking about the lock up of the knife I came to the conclusion that it's actually more the mechanics of the design. In the closed position the liner lock puts a slight pressure at the base of the blade thus ensuring blade retention. When the blade swings open that same pressure moves the liner lock under the base of the blade giving it a solid lock up.In the open position the blade is centered straight as an arrow with a rock solid lock up and zero blade play in any direction. It's that pressure that causes the blade to be a little off center when closed.Mine opens fast and locks tight and true so why fix something that's not broken?I'm no expert, that's just my conclusion.

No coincidence on the family resemblance. We originally developed the Paradigm as the Pro-level of the Vantage family. It was unique enough that we decided to make a Vantage in S30V and G10 for the Pro-level.

I've had a chance to handle a Paradigm at a local shop. When I first saw it, I was surprised at how similar it was to my Vantage. I think of a Paradigm as an evolved super-fancy Vantage with a pretty darn awesome locking/opening mechanism.

Does anybody know if the clips are the same size on the small and large variants of the Vantage line?

I searched here and tried to find side-by-side images of a small and large (any version) on google and came up empty, more or less.
They look like they might be the same clip but it's really hard to judge the scale on two separate images.

I'm hoping someone that owns both sizes can confirm if this is true or not.

The clip on the smaller one is smaller than the clip on the larger one.

Awesome!

Plumberdv, from one central coast Californian (SB) to another, THANK YOU!!
My question is definitively answered. I'm sure that comparison shot will be of help to plenty of other people, too.

And in any case, you've helped me make up my mind to get one of the large sized ones.

Got a question for y'all who own Vantage Pros. I've seen one small Vantage Pro in a local B&M. While I liked how the G-10 felt, it had a powdery white finish. I suspect that the white I was seeing was left over G-10 dust that hadn't been cleaned off after machining. Am I correct in that assumption and in assuming that a wash or two will clear the surface, or is the G-10 just roughly machined, or is that just how G-10 normally appears?
