This story starts out with a dog jumping out of the back of the truck smelling a boar, and ends here with these pics!

It wasn't my dog, lol. But none the less i ended up with the hog.

As I unsheathed my 651 I could smell the fear in that ol boar hog!

I have the meat marinating for tomorrow. a 6am start to some fabulous smoked pig.

David jumped right in with the 118 D2 to finish him off......

Glad you didn't waste any ammo on that nuisance pig also glad you didn't get hurt thats a cool lookin' nighthawk bye the way.

LOL,bucksway you took him out with you're knife:eek:.That's sport hunting for sure.:)

This is great ! I think you boys may have done this sort of thing before . Have fun and let us know how the Buck knives worked for you . DM

I love this forum!

Clint & Dave that is one nice looking pig. Thanks for the photo's of your Buck's in action. The close up of the 651 bloody tip is awesome. I did not get to go hunting this year so the photo's here have to do until later this year.

thanks JB, wish I had taken more pics to share. BUt it was kinda messy...lol!!!!

There are very good photos here . Thanks.
This hunt type is not usual in Russia, therefore it is very interesting for me.
This knife has the right geometry for that hunt.

naw- we did not kill him with that pig sticker
he was shot
a clean single shot from a country boy who lives here in cattle country
God knows my choniees are not that big to take one on
a wild one even with a pig sicker ! well if i had to .. would want that sticker for dang sure!
what bucksway meant was that he was cut up using that big knife
and yes my friend garryale from using it to cut that hog up i will tell you
it Does have the right mass and shape to go after one still alive
but not by ME

that " whole " boar was caught taking his afternoon nap
and did not get to run and get his 'juices' going and into his system
his meat smelled jest like the pork you would buy at a meat market
instead of wild or boorish as most will after running from dogs..
he had one tusk broke off the other about one and
the other was a good one and a half inches( 3.5cm) long

as i was butchering him i could see of were he had been in fights
and had had dogs bite him before so he was a fighter survivor
i was impressed with pure solidness of this 150 lb boar
and the thickness and density of the shield around his belly and ribcage

i had help from bucksways friend as have a torn rotator cuff
and could not pick the carcass up or move it well at all
it took some thing around 4 hrs ..start to in the freezer
{{{ugh ,,, well,.. gee...ugh..
imafritz, postfallsidaho jest so you two alone know
i had a my own right sharp 112 bucklite i used later in cleanup of smaller chunks getting membranous off }}}
(OMG dont NONE of youa'l out there tell any one dave used a dang girly knife!! )

the pig sticker worked well in places with its long reach and thick blade
as in cutting down through his neck to bone to snap the head off
good reaching up to trim the anus free and getting to bone for the hams and shoulders and through the rib cage
was a tad long for skinning
mostly
i used that D2 bladed knifee that is bucksways go to for fishing.
it is a great profile that is handy and worked better then
(gasp) my go to 110's i used in the past
there was not time to put a real edge back on it
((bucksway has used it for a while ))
but had a tri-stone there and got a usable edge on it easily enough
jest had to touch it back up a few times
with gloves on you cant test the edge ya know..

well i was going to the post office yesterday to send some
buck stuff to Haebbie .. and that .. well i still got to go
sorry haebbie ! jest another day delay ...
i know you dont mind another day getting there over
cutting some meat for the family!

Dave, nice to see you!
No Problem, the delay. That's a good chance to loose weight.
Shipping needs another three or four weeks. That's a good time to
get a good fighting weight ... ((grin))

Best,
Haebbie

Going by your screenname, I'm guessing you have a .45-70. Marlin 1895G here.

To 110 Dave .
Thanks for your explanations Mr. Dave.
At the beginning of this thread I thought that that hog was been taken only with cold steel and the dog help.
I was thinking for a long time about the blood on the hog head, it looks like unusual place for the "cold steel" piercing.
It is good that the meat doesn't have the "hog' smack.:)
Looks like you had the small adventure at that day.
Thanks for your explanations about Pig Sticker too.

Clint & Dave, nothing better than a hunt with your brother. Never too old to have fun, and never too old to try something new(really Dave..a 112 & 118...who'd a thunk it):D
