Dove breast on Christmas Eve would be nice indeed! We get a few collards here as well, but mostly mourning dove. After Christmas here in the late season they tend to group up in larger flocks, which makes for nice shooting.View attachment 1479037 Some collard dove moved in. The season is open year round here.
Got six good ones today, most being what we call “cane-cutters” or “swamp rabbits” down here. They are larger than a cottontail. Used my ‘67-‘72 era Buck 110, that belonged to my dad to work them up.

Growing up, we called them swamp rabbits. They are very good and like you say, much larger than cottentail. Good hunting & table fare. DM
Nice gun. I used an Ithaca M37 16ga to take my share of the rabbits in my post above. They are just cat squirrels, our fox squirrels are typically more tan with a black head and are protected, have been for several years now.
It was a beautiful morning an i even got started rather late.
It is a Remington model 11.
looks good.....the dawgs even waiting for hers there.and the follow up. The best grilled squirrel I've ever had.
Seasoned with Lowreys seasoning salt and cajun seasoning and a couple spoons of bacon grease vaccum bagged and Sous Vide for 9hrs at 155*.
Then wrapped with bacon and grilled long enough to crisp the bacon.
