Here's a new one.

I picked up a Buck 560, which is a Buck 110 with fingergrooved titanium handles. The handles reduce the weight of the knife greatly, and provide an absolutely extraordinary grip. The cost was $55.00. I also picked up a "one armed bandit" for it, which adds a thumb stud to the buck. The bandit was $5.00. Buck told me that they'd upgrade the blade to BG-42 for $30.00!!!

So I get very ergonomic, titanium handles, one hand opening, rock solid locked, BG-42 blade steeled, large folding knife for a grand total of $90.00!!!!

I call it the BuckBenza. :D

It's true that the Sebenza will open smoother than a BuckBenza, a Seb has a pocket clip, and can be taken apart for cleaning. But for $90.00, the BuckBenza is an absolute steel!!! Err.... I mean Steal!!!!

Really unbelievable! Is this available from Buck or any other vendors? What a find. And, I might add, very appropriately named by you. :)

Wow! That's a great-looking blade. I think it would be great if Buck would mass-produce this very knife (Titanium handles, BG42 blade, thumbstud). If they mass-produced it, then they could probably offer it below even $90. That would be one of the best buys around. Congrats on a great knife!

I found the 560 and 1/8" One Armed Bandit at SMKW. It doesn't look like 1SKS carries them, and they are who I usually buy from. SMKW came through for me though. I ordered on Friday, and received the package on Monday.

The knife does have to be sent back to Buck though for the blade upgrade.

If you want a BuckBenza, I'd move pretty quickly. Word has it that the 560 is now discontinued due to low sales. It's hard to believe. I can't imagine anybody ever actually handling one, and not being blown away!!!

For $90.00 I would go for a Benchmade 750. I am not a fan of finger grooved knives, so put me down as not blown away, but the BG-42 option offered by Buck is a great deal. I had a 110 MS overrun, great blade, gave it to a friend in the Scouts.

Again? Maybe I've got things wrong here. I did a search on the forums and found a post about the 560 being discontinued. I don't remember the date. The post mentioned that Buck had a number of Titanium handles left and were not planning on having any more made.

Buck just re-issued this model after it being discontinued for a while. (factory that made the Ti handles burned down!)
Now they have a new supplier of Ti handles and a great knife comes back. (good job on the BG42 steel upgrade, this stuff is premium blade material)(IMHo)

Very sweet.:) Now if they would lose the finger grooves and make it in 112 size......

And put a pocket clip and thumb stud on it.

The first Ti 110 variant (can't recall the # back in 1987?) was user disassembleable. It came w/a take down tool in the form of a qtr bit allen wrench attached to a snap ring which in turn was attached to the handle.
It also had a removable Ti pocket/belt clip that matched the contours of the handle. It was a very nice package for its day and retailed for about $80.
It didn't have a thumstud though.

Here is a link to a thread about that variant, complete with pics!

alex_111!

Go to the Buck Forums in mfg. and makers, and look for the post of "Buckbenza revisited". Shootist posted a couple of pics that I sent him by e-mail of the Model #186 that I own with papers, box, keyring, and the "bandit" thumbstud I put on it.

Hope this helps.
