These pieces were an experiment based on advice from Bill Akers. He said if you dye buckeye orange you end up with Harley colors. I told him I was going to name the blocks after him (Wild Bill's Harley Burl) so he gets the credit or the blame for them looking like this. These were dyed and stabilized by K&G (Knife & Gun custom stabilizing). I cut one piece into scales so I could insure the dye penetrated all the way through the blocks. Since this is buckeye there may be some small open eyes or voids that could require a small fill if any fall within your handle area.

The wood looks a bit darker in real life. Sunlight caused a bit of glare in the photos.
If you would like your blocks cut into scales I can do that at no charge. I can cut the scales to your desired thickness and true up the slabs for equal thickness on my drum sander. (None thinner than 1/4" please) There will normally be about 1/8"+ loss of material from each cut and sanding. These blocks will yield 1 set of 3/8" scales.
