 If you haven't already done so I suggest that you put on your shades now. The scales, even in natural diffused light, draw your eye to them like steel to a magnet. They look like some stuff does under a black light (like it is illuminated from within), dayglow, and therefore hard to lose (pics didn't really capture the true brightness of the scales). You cannot hide this knife.

Data: Bucklite Max 486orSBC, 8.625" open, 5" closed, 3.03 oz., pinned construction, dual thumb stud opener, rear back lock, lined lanyard hole, beautiful silver low-rider pocket clip carry (anvil with "B" inside the anvil engraved in outside of bottom of clip), toothy sharp, beautiful 420HC blade with "USA 486>" and "BUCK" engraved on polished front and "Boone And Crocket Club" laser etched on unpolished front of blade while back of blade is sterile, comfortable in both regular and reverse grips and a screaming bargain @ under $22, before shipping, for me.

Opinion: Locks open with an authoritative click and locks open solidly. I would be pleased and proud to receive this knife as a gift. I couldn't be more tickled. A bold color that I like very much and marvel how such a shockingly bright color could be brought to life. Thank you kindly Buck. You are all right.

I like it. Looks like a good user knife to me. I was looking at them this morning on one of my favorite knife sites.

Nice one oregon,

I think I'll by a few of the little 425 orange mini Bucks for the grand kids. This year I gave my 10 year old grand daughter a 503 at deer camp. She had it in hand no stop right up to when she lost it. She was heartbroken, If I had given her an orange colored knife I bet she would still have it!

Thanks for posting your photo's.

Thank you for your kind words. You know, if you keep encouraging me I'll just splatter more pics all over the place.

Where is deer camp? I'll look for it. :D I suffer every lost piece of gear. However, a story: I was hypothermic, afoot, alone, high in the Cascade Mountains, soaking wet and somewhat lost when I came upon a new Victorinox Swiss Army knife right in the middle of the red gravel road. It picked me up. I still have this knife. Someone finding that knife she lost could be a wonderful event for someone.

I think that she would love this knife. It takes some hand strength to work a back lock. How does she do with this type of lock?

At least you were on the good side of the mountain if you were on a red gravel road :D Sorry couldn't resist

I should have noticed that you were in Bend, OR. The high desert.

The story played out as a late summer bicycle trip, 8 high-spirited guys from the Portland area, from Limber Lost Campground at the base of Dead Horse Grade, went into Bend, via Sisters and paved roads and back to Sisters via the backway past Three Creek Lake. Six guys dropped out, mechanical failure and exhaustion, and the last two of us were high up heading for 3CL when we were hit by a violent wet squawl. We came to a fork in the road, bikes no longer working as they filled with the red grit and our hands too numb to grip, so we split up to find some help. We met later when the roads we were both on converged. The terrific guy managing 3CL took us into Sisters in exchange for our help bringing in the boats off the lake. It was his last day of the season. We got lucky that time and I got pneumonia. The good old days...

Thank you for your pictures and opinions. I just ordered one for myself :D.

Opening the orange BuckLite Max:

I asked my lovely wife to try to open and close the orange BuckLite Max to see if she could. The best that she could do was get the blade to open about 1/2 inch from the closed position, using her dominant right hand and the thumb stud (one hand only).

The knife came oiled at the pivot area and the mating surfaces of the blade & lockbar are polished. I removed the factory oil and replaced it with food grade mineral oil and worked the knife open and closed several times.

She had another try and could partially open the blade 1.5 inches. She said that the knife was too big for her hands and that she didn't have the hand strength to open it. However, her hands seem plenty strong when she feels the need to pinch the heck out of me and I marvel/bleat at her formidable grip.

I routinely use the exact same part of my thumb to work the thumb stud opener. I push up and a little out to open. I explained this to her but it didn't seem to help. A learning curve issue for her perhaps.

When I go to open it I just open it, one-handed, and have no complaints. The lockup is outstanding. Just the way I like it, solid.

Top, false edge, of blade: It doesn't cut but it is sharp and I think it would be a good edge for spark stick action and save the blade for cutting.

Enjoy your new knife. If you don't like it you can break both of my legs and I won't squawk. :D

A pic while in my usual carry position: Rear corner of right front jeans' pocket. Pants are draped on a desk and a small clear orange butane lighter is in the watch pocket (the Eiger biner is for key ring or flashlight lanyard attachment, if any).

I used to have a medium black BL Max and I gifted to my friend as he seemed to really like it. Turns out he edc's all the time. I am excited to get the large orange one. For the money it is a great deal.

I have this knife and love it. I did mod it slightly, and put a sharpening choil on the blade.

Yesterday, at one of my honey hole pawn shops I came across a 426 Buckkite workman stamped / (93) in good shape with the grey handle . I picked it up for 10$ and today sharpened it up . It sharpens like 425M I just hope it is . It cleaned up nice so I'll carry it for a while . Hardly know its in my pocket . DM

Great buy! I do like the Bucklites.

I really like the knife and I think I would be able to keep up with one in that color! So I dropped the hammer one this am and will be patiently waiting for it's arrival. Pretty decent price for a good looking knife.

I saw these things show up recently at a couple of sites. I like the B&C and the orange better than the black. I've always liked the 440 and older 420 series bucklites much better but may have to get an orange one or two.

You gave your friend a terrific gift.

I've been carrying and using the BuckLite Max orange for several days now. It carried well clipped into the back of my right front jean's pocket which is also carrying 3-4 pens and sometimes a tire gauge. The knife pulls easily, opens with a great sounding click and it is comfortable to hold while cutting. It doesn't seem too big at all.
