Hi,

I'm happy to say that after a long search, I've finally found a Buckmaster in good condition that I could afford - always wanted one for my collection.

Alas, no paperwork or box...

Can anyone help me with the following?

o What is the intent for the lower/larger of the two external Cordura pouches? It seems way too big just to hold the spikes when unscrewed.

o The upper/smaller Cordura pouch on mine contains a small Silva compass. Is that the original intent, and is it original equipment?

o What does the angle bracket after the '184' signify? This is stamped into the blade just above the guard.

o What is the size and thread of the holes for the screw-in spikes?

o Where might I find originals or copies of whatever papers were included with a new Buckmaster?

o How about a box? (probably dreaming here, but...)

Thanks in advance to everybody!

Bill,
Congratulations on finding your Buckmaster! I can help with some of your questions. The small pouch is for the Silva compass. The first Buckmasters had a small compass inside the pommel. The large pouch was intended for a knife about the size of a model 110 folding hunter. The angle you mentioned after the modle number is a date code. Depending on which way it is pointed will tell which year the knife was made.
I can send you copies of the paperwork that was included with the knife if you give me your address.
Sorry, no boxes laying around. :-(

Hope this helps,

I also have a Buckmaster 184 that I bought about nine years ago and was wondering if you could tell me what kind of steel the blade is and why this knife is no longer made.
