Buckmaster

But why no tang stamp guys? Never seen that before on any bucks.

I'd like to know the answer too. My first thought would be to not identify the knife as USA made for military security reasons, but then, the blade clearly states the U.S. Patent number.

Perhaps I overlooked it, but that list doesn't mention anything about blades with NO stamp on the ricasso like the one posted by buckman. Any thoughts anyone?

Idk why the ones like mine didn't have a tang stamp. Cant find anything on why, and no one really knows. Odd.

Your 184 is a variation 6 made from March 1987 till September 1999. This is the most common with 47,758 made per Richard Neyman's Buckmaster book. Pg 246.

I also believe this was a post patent Buck 184 with BUCKMASTER in the blood groove and no more date stamp which started in early 87. I also heard in 85 53,000 were made when they added US pat pending to the stamp. But I could be wrong.

See thats sorta what i think, but it has a patten number in the blood groove.

I believe you have the 5B blade stamp from the second version of the knife 1987 on (there also was another stamp for these years). Depending on other features such as the short/long pins, right or left front teeth grind, number of teeth etc you can get the year a lot closer.

buckman 110. Does your pommel look exactly like the one that gsea posted pictures of or is the pommel narrower? The early version 6 had the wider pommels such as the one in the pictures while the later version 6 had a thinner pommel and finally the latest versions had shorter pins.

So than you have an earlier version 6. The version 6.1 had the thinner pommel and version 6.2 had shorter pins as well. At least that is how I interpret it from the Buckmaster book I have some of the version 6 as well as the version 6.1 but I do not have the one with shorter pins. I also have all the versions including the black versions except for version 4. Again this is my understanding from the Buckmaster book. There is a couple other minor differences on some that I do not have. Someday I would like to have at least one of each variation. If dreams do come true that is.
