Buck's Kraton Handled Fix Blades

The Problem is, after a lot of use kraton gets weak and feels spongy. That was the disadvantage of the 600 series.

alot of use, or just time degrading the knife handle? meaning the kraton breaks down/changes over time even if not used?

Yes, a lot of use and no, no changes over the time only. Several years ago Joe H. confirmed the problem after hard using. You can fin the statement here at the blade forums. I had a short search but couldn't find it. May be I have more luck later.

With the Moderne' kitchen knives it was cycles in dish washers that caused the handles to deteriorate. DM

Does anyone know when the 125 Streammate went from a brown to black (dark gray) Kraton? I am guessing about 1987 - 1988.

I got a 639 Fieldmate from my mother for my birthday or Christmas (birthday is close to xmas) around 1987. I never carried it much and so is like new in the box. She's gone now and so would not part with for any amount. Guess I need to take it out in the field from time to time. I never liked the sheath it came with but found it fits in a buck 119 sheath just fine.
