Buck's Large Trapper

Another difference between the official Smoky Mountain knives and the post Camillus parts auction assemblies is the lack of a serial number on the front bolster. I think that Craig (300bucks) once pointed out is that they were still correct Camillus manufactured parts assembled by an (ex) Camillus employee, minor differences not withstanding.

Yes, somewhat. In that yes, they are Camillus parts. Likely assembled by a Camillus employee. Not at the Camillus plant. Then not sold by Smokey Mountain. Thus they lack 1 or more of the 4 elements that those offered by Smokey Mountain had. DM

pj, nice color on your jigged bone. I noticed on yours the mid pins are set even.
Whereas on mine they are staggered. I wonder if that reflects a different date & method of doing them. DM
Thanks David, the bone is different on either of the sides, that is the best side, the other is real dark. I bought this one from George C.(gsea), he told me that he put in the logo shield. For the pin differences, I would speculate that these might have been done by different employees and that would account for some minor differences.

I procured a Buck shield from George as well for my parts model from Stumps. Like mine yours lacks the LE emblem, the blade inking and the stamped serial number.
I suspect Buck was going to do another batch on this model. As so many 'parts knives' keep showing up. DM

I'm glad we have the parts models. But many owners think they are the ' real McCoy'.
When I encounter them at shows. I don't bother to educate them. If I want it I buy it. If not, someone else will . Then they'll come show me and we'll discuss it. These are
Interesting but much confusion follows this model. Its great this model is 20 yrs. old and we are finally unlocking its secrets. DM

The Bone, bone, bone, bone and bone picture is what sold me on the Trapper Buck or not. It's basically a double non-locking 110 in a slightly different package. I'm still waiting this morning for the bone large trapper to see for myself if bone makes a difference in handling. Funny thing is the smaller trapper has not appealed to me at all nor any other 'traditional' patterns..just the large trapper...EDIT: The non USA models, even the few super steel bone models, had no appeal at all. A quality made in the USA knife just feels right in your pocket or on your belt which is how I think I will carry mine. I might even try a lanyard since iboth has the hole for it. I've never used one before.

Bucksway, try making use of the lanyard hole feature to see if you like it. I have always liked one.
You emphasize the USA stamp. I think for me its a point of pride as well as other folks. But thats another mystery with this model. That stamp I have seen on a few
of these but only on the black delrin model and on the back of the drop point blade only.
Please check you model for that stamp. Should you find it let me know. Thanks. DM

Up until I started reading this thread the large trapper was not on my radar at all..I was happy with my 112's and the few 110's I have. But carpal tunnel in my one good hand led me to find a knife that might give me a better grip..and the jigged bone does. Not as convenient to open is it's only drawback. I like the look and both of the ones I have have really sharp blades. I actually like the heft so far and plan to carry the bone version when I find the shieth I want to use. Traditional knives and patterns just never appealed to me before. I'll probably get a Buck version just because I'm loyal to the brand but I have the feeling if my hand gets worse I will have to use a automatic.

They feel good in the hand, the jigged bone gives a better grip but the delrin is good too.
You can close it with one hand too. Have you found a sheath for it? DM

Somewhere in the big Buck pile I have a 111 shieth from the 2007 club knife I made into a open top. That's what I plan on using..when I find it! Right now I'm keeping the smooth Colobolo Bullet in the Honda and the Jigged bone open in a coffee cup on my desk. Due to the lock down I'm home most of the time.
