I read in Knifeworld magazine that Buck is going to start making all their stuff in the USA, a commitment to the good ole US of A. Now, that said, I have noticed alot of the Chinese made stuff on all the store shelves I visit at Gander Mtn., Dicks, etc. Are those Chinese stuff going to be sold until they run out of inventory (past commitments to Buck's retailers) or does Buck have contracts that have to expire before they can totally convert to USA made products?

I would imagine the big retailers will sell through the old stock before rolling out new. Why have two versions of the same knife on the shelf at the same time when the target buyer is the average knife user who won't know or care about the difference between China and USA?

Thats one of the main reasons Buck is making the move.Is that many desire USA made products.DM

Awesome....I wish Hershey would do the same, I miss my American made Hershey bars....sniff.

How are some of Bucks heat treatment on their knives, has there been any quality control issues? Also, since it was stated about Hershey, what is the latest about the old news that Hershey was going to move production out of Hershey PA to an overseas plant? That was about 2 or 3 years ago since I heard that when we went on vacation to PA.

I dont think all of the Bucks are coming back. I think a few of the "gadgety" models will stay oversees. I believe I remember this info from a thread a few weeks ago. Someone pleas correct me if I'm wrong(as I often am)

There will likely always be some products produced offshore, i.e.gadgety ones such as our "tool type" products as imafritz says. We are actively bringing back from China some of the curent products, such as the Bantams and 325/326 Gentlemens series framelocks. Some products will not be brought back but allowed to run their normal life cycle and die. Our company direction is to actively pursue new products with the intent of them being built in the US, and source them only where it is not at all practical to build them in the US.

How about the slippies? An American made Canoe would be sweet.

Mr. Keys,
Great to hear from you! Always great when Buck folks chime in here.

More slippies made here would be great. Always looking for a US made Buck toothpick but I haven't had any luck finding one myself yet. Would be great to get a new one:D

Thanks again for your input!

I would love to see more US-made slipjoints, esp. if the bolsters were rounded rather than squared.

On the point of "slippies", we have not yet ventured into other styles (domestically) beyond the two and three blade "stockman" style, with the exception of a special run of a canoe style (sort of) for AG Russell that has blades with AG's signature on one blade and Chuck's signature on the other blade.
We are in the process of producing the new Chairman's Series of 301, 303, 305 and 309 that have a hidden spring rivet, inlays of cherrywood Dyamond wood, are VERY rounded and contoured (they look and feel great) and has Chuck's signature lasered into the wood inlay. I am not a big "pocket knife" person, but I like these.
There is likely more additions in the future.

Thanks for responding Bill, I can tell you personally, if the China made 300s were made here, I'd probably have bought them all. They remind me of the classic "jack knife" we all carried in school as kids (and no one even stabbed themselves or another with them, imagine that!) and for some reason the style of the current US made 300s doesn't do it for me (sorry 300Bucks!). Good to hear there's more on the horizon.

Yeah, thanks Bill, I cant wait to see the chairman series. I love my wood handled 371 and 373 but I would love em(and buy) more if they had the good ole USA stamp on the tang.

From the spy drone over Idaho....300

Great to see that some are headed out!

I prefer them without the signature on them, but can't make everyone happy. I'll probably pick up all of them except for the full size Stockman, too big for pocket carry for me.

That is good news that there will be more US versions!
