That's a whole new Mr. Drew sprung out this spring.

Very interesting new pieces, looks like the new workshop is up and running.

Yes, the new shop is up and running even though I am still stepping over boxes and have not found all my stuff yet. Lets talk about the knife for the wood you sent me!

Looks great, no doubt about it.
How do you operate that sheath? Never seen one like it.

It is a flap with a hole cut just a little larger than the butt of the handle. It pulls over the butt with a little effort to streach the leather and holds the knife fairly tight. I didn't feel a snap was appropriate and didn't think a tie was very usable either.

A friend of mine made a knife and sheath like that when we were taking shop in Jr HIgh. In those days they let us use real tools and make things like brass cannons and knives. Our teacher was very good about rewarding inventivenss and using new materials or new ways to make old things . If I remember correctly he made the knife out of a leaf spring and used the forge in the back of the shop.
I made a speargun because I was diving at the time.
The cannon was cast at the local foundry after the male mould was made in class on the lathe.

We had a shop teacher that even let us bring in our rifles and shotguns to work on them. He was a little nervous about hand guns though. More simple times.

Nice to meet you at the gunshow this weekend my friend.

Nice looking bowie! I'm liking your "historic" knives you've been posting lately and that sheath is too cool.

Is that guard brass? How did you age it?

OK, after a show last week-end and a week on BF, I feel that I might have overpriced this one. Anyone interested in this knife at $105 delivered?

J:
The guard is iron and was treated the same as the blade when I aged it with a mix of gun blue, etchant and mustard.

I'm a fan of the rustic look but I haven't had the courage to try making one. That is a really great looking knife at a great price.
