Actually Grover_Cephas, you are correct in principal and we are making plans to serve the market you are speaking of. Yes, we will be using Aichi AUS-6. That's all I can say at this time.

I think that this makes a lot of sense. To maintain quality, yet find a way to somewhat decrease sticker price in an additional "entry level" model seems like a wonderful idea.

AUS-6 isn't such a bad steel, really. It sharpens easily and has good corrosion resistance.

I just recently acquired a Delica II in AUS-6, and the steel seems wonderful to me. From the box this knife was super sharp, and after cutting a whole bunch of stuff it still is. Apparently it is easy to resharpen as well, although I haven't had to yet.
