BUDGET Fixed Blades....What's Your Feelings on a Few of the SCHRADE Knives??

You know. It took me a while to figure out what the "big river" site was about a year ago. I kept thinking Columbia River..... Mississippi River..... etc. I have to chuckle about this now. And yes, I order from the big river site frequently, books almost weekly for one. I probably have helped their stock rise to the price it is today to the point that the company is valued more than Walmart. Amazing really when you consider how it struggled when it first started.

I may just opt to get another BK-15 just to keep it as a spare or backup if I loose the one I use. It is a very good knife even at the old price point.

I have a schf36 which i think is a awesome great knife on every level, i also have a schf9 and 28. I have a bk2,9,10,11 but i have a hard time putting the schf36 down. I have a mtech raptor thats a beast and a couple smaller mtechs tha5 are great knives for the price, 440c isnt bad and wasnt looked down on for many years

Many good values discussed here; good to see that Schrade addressed issues with their original designs.

Put my vote in for the BK-15 as well; it's my go-to Tweener in the Becker line up.

From the list, I have Schrade SCHF38
Once stripped, it is different. Even with minimal touch-up.
It is a tough knife.

After almost an year, I like the Schrade SCHF38. But I did a change to it: I grind the small choil to allow an all blade sharpening and I satin it. And the jimping was "calmed down" to a comfortable level.

i have the SCHF26, its a great knife , very well put together and love the blade thickness. seems to hold a nice edge. ok sheath is a plain nylon webbing affair, made a kydex sheath for it though so its a moot point. i think i paid around $45 for it here locally. theres a couple of the larger ones that i wouldnt mind having as well. great value imo.

Google Survival on Purpose the guy over there reviews Taylor stuff all the time .And he a Boy Scoutmaster.

Bowhunting pigs, alone. You'll need a dog which is calm & silent while waiting for you to shoot, can track & hold a wounded runaway & can stop a wounded charger, alone. Big money for a grown one. Don't forget the tuskproof vest & collar with radio transmitter.

Handgun or hunting sword & a nice skinner.

I am looking for a budget fixed blade in the $50 range, maybe 2 with different length blades. I would want one in the 4-5 inch range and the other in the 6 to 7 inch range. I would be using them for when I go bow hunting in the thick stuff in Sam Houston National Forest here in Texas. Even though I will be hunting HOGS, I am NOT looking for a knife to HUNT with, as in ACTUALLY HUNT with. If I would use a knife on a hog it would be to take the backstraps off and remove the head for a European mount. That's all. I am NOT one of these guys that wants to kill a hog with a knife. I'm too much of a wussy for that stuff.
I also would have it for camping chores and such. Either of these blades would come in handy for any of the kind of stuff I might run into while out and about with my bow.
With all the other gear and licenses I have to buy too, I am not in a position to buy these awesome knives I see you guys talking about all the time. That's why I am looking at BUDGET blades.
I realize that you dont hunt hogs with only a knife and that ýou are interested in a camp knife.

Personally I have hunted hogs with dogs and a knife and its...interesting.

As you bow hunt, a knife for sticking a hog might not be such a bad idea, as you might need to dispatch a hog.

I used a long(-ish) Bowie but it doesnt have to be a super big knife to do the job.

Maybe look into packing a knife, which might do both jobs or pack a camp knife and a knife for sticking depending on your gear and situation when hunting.

Happy hog hunting.
