Recommendation? Budget folder with black blade

The manix 2 is very appealing I think I will have to consider it

I like the Emerson designs and I still don’t have a CQC-7B BT... may also be on my list or a Kershaw alternative...

Thanks you for the recommandations

i kind of like the para 3 option

How does it compare side to side with an emerson cqc-7?

You were describing the Cold Steel American Lawman. Great knife too.

The lawman is a great knife
Not exactly what I am looking for for now but I think I may look at it with attention in the future

The Lawman is a working man s knife. Strong, light, durable and a nice thin flat blade grind for excellent slicing. Very good edge retention, even for s35vn.
And a bargain for 100.00 or less. But it falls short of two of your criteria. It now has s35vn steel and it has a triad back lock which is one of its best features.
Before I got my Lawman, black blades were a deal breaker for me. Now I don t mind them at all.
Speaking of black blades on a working knife, if you can accept the triad lock, the Recon 1 is possibly the best hard work knife you ll find for less than 150.00. Way less. Great bargain.

If the Cold Steel products don t interest you, get a Rat 1 with d2 steel. Another great value.

Hello,

I am looking for a folder matching the points bellow:
  • Blade length: 3.1” to 3.7”
  • Blade material: no s35vn
  • Blade finish: black
  • Handle material: G10 or micarta
  • Locking mechanism: no back lock, would like to avoid frame lock
  • Pivot system: no ball bearings
  • Opening mechanism: nonautomatics
  • Price limit: under 160$
i will mainly use it as a beater when working inside the house and in the yard

I already have (or have had):
  • Black paramilitary 2
  • Black 0350
  • Ranger green Bugout
what would you recommend ?
My 'beater' is a Gerber Propel - button-lock, it comes with a spring-assist but can easily be removed and function even better without the spring: https://www.gerbergear.com/Knives/Assisted/Propel-AO_30-000840
I'd sell you one of mine, if yer interested, drop me a PM.

There are a LOT of black-bladed liner-lock knives that fit the bill. One option is the Buck Vantage Force - I have a select version which I swapped G10 scales onto, center one in the photo (all three are for sale if interested in any):

Kilimanjaro Gear DW Folder. Daniel Winkler designed. 3.1" AUS-10 Teflon coated black blade. Liner lock and nice Micarta scales. Usually found at a price that wouldn't make you think twice if you had to cut tar shingles with it.

Take a look at the Spyderco Tenacious for around 50 bucks.
Or for something different, the CRKT Homefront -- I've been wanting to try this one myself. I like the Field Strip feature for easy cleaning.

Count me in as another Manix 2 fan. Just an awesome workhorse, especially with the G10 scales.

But...
What do you consider "budget"?
When I hear budget and black blade, my mind jumps to the Kershaw Blackout. I'd probably still have/carry it, but I'm pretty much over black blades and assisted openers.

I can't agree more with the Blackout for a true beater. I've had one forever, and it's taken a lot of abuse. The handle is nice and meaty, and fills the palm well. It's also one of their American made knives, if that matters to you. I think they are discontinued now, though, but you'd have to check to be sure.

Only on a knife forum is a $160 folder a "budget" knife :p

Benchmade Griptilian?

If you're not opposed to used knives, BKC Freek?

I was thinking this exact thought. LOL

I opened the thread thinking I'd see some Byrd or other Spyderco budget offerings and maybe an Ontario Rat 1 or 2, but dang, we went right to the Manix 2.
