Budget Folders

On a budget the best folder money can buy must be Ka-bar Dozier Folding Hunter. Retails around 28$ or so. Is of fine quality, decent steel en has a very good fit for the price. It actually won prizes in the press.

Many people here don't like Cold Steel products, but I have a recon1 combo edge, and it's very well built, smooth opening, good fit and finish, large handle, black blade (teflon coating is not exceptional but below $50 you probably won't find anything better).
Of course the blade is "only" made of 440A, but at least, it resist corrosion very well and minor abuses pretty well. Came out of the box crazy sharp, regular light stropping keeps it in good shape, the serrations (only 40% of the edge) are efficient but can be fragile depending on what kind of material you go through and that is the only point you should pay attention with this knife ;)

Don't forget the Camullis Heat and Blaze. I know the Heat comes with a black blade. I don't think you'll find better AUS-8 blade steel.

I have to say . . I really dig col steel's voyager line. I have two 6 inchers and two five. The handle on the 5" bowie blade version is really nice, and the six inchers are unreal, alot of knife for the money. Never had a prob with any of them, love the size, super lockup.

Question: are we looking for one-hand opening exclusively? I personally carry a small folder - the Spyderco SS Jester - and a larger one with the typical thumbnail notch.

Another thought if you're really pressed for cash is the Ka-BAR Dozier line (Zytel handle lockbacks or backlocks or whatever).

camillus sizzle is a good choice
its a little on the smaller side, but it has a black blade and opens with a nice snap. i have big hands as well and got used to the feel of it pretty fast.

I don't know what the price was for the Ka-Bar Dozier
Folding Hunter at A.G. Russell (the link is dead); however,
I found a good deal on it here for $62. If anyone knows
of a cheaper deal, please let me know. With a 3-inch
blade, it's a real beaut!

I've seen this beauty sell for upwards of
$95 elsewhere, so $62 seems like a great
deal. It might be a good idea to pick up a
couple. I'm sure they're banned as a "deadly
weapon" in the U.K.
