Hello guys, I am looking for a good quality well made knife that will last many many years, that has universal use. I enjoy fishing, bushcraft, general outdoor pursuits and i want to find a reliable Fixed or folding blade that will not deteriorate and can perform well at most tasks, from cutting rope and wood, to slicing fish and breaking glass and everything in between.
Yeah i know tall order! but if anyone knows the knife I am looking for, he definitley resides on this forum!!! Thanks in Advance, John.

Welcome!

You need to narrow things down a LOT. At the very least decide 1) how much you want to spend; and 2) if you want a fixed blade or a folder.

No one here knows what you are looking for based on the broad generality of your question. We would have to be mind readers.

Take "breaking glass" out of your requirements and get a mora. Use the mora and figure out what you do and don't like about it. The only way to tell what knife will work for you is to use them and form your own opinion.

An Esee or Becker

I agree with Marcinek. I'm making an educated guess what may suit you :)

Tall order maybe, but my pick would be the Fällkniven TK2!

It certainly is a handsome knife. (And it is nice to see your fishing pics...I always enjoyed them).

I'm thinking either a Fallkniven S1, a Vic Super Tinker, or a Tram 14 inch Trail Machete.

And a nearby rock to break that glass with.

Not knowing much/your budget or your blade length/steel requirements...I would suggest a Becker bk15 (i love mine) or 17. I also like the DPX fixed blade. As Mikael W.suggested.. Fällkniven TK2 is also good. As for a folder..a Hogue ex-01, or maybe a Spyderco (para?) or Benchmade (mini grip?). Once again..depends on your budget.

Thanks Marcinek, Fishing is Life!

Both the S1 and TK2 works, as well as a long list of knives.

The new Mora's, the Bushcraft and Robust models would work too, if the budget is tight.

Mikael

first of all, whats with the huge font size? and second, just get a mora. and forget about 1 knife doing everything because it isnt going to. a knife is a cutting tool first, a chopping/batoning tool second. and sometimes it will have a can opener on the back, or some gimmicky thing like that. XD so if you want to break glass with the use of a knife. grab a semi large branch, carve a nice handle to it, and hit the glass with it..... or get an Esee, i think those have a glass breaker on the back....

have an S1 on my rig right now and it's a great all rounder... i bought it after being so impressed with the F1 and the way it has performed over the last 5 years. Falknivens all hold a good edge, they are tough as hell and it don't rust easily, and if you have to break glass, the full tang extends out the pommel enough to smash whatever you need.

these are all brilliant suggestions thanks for your input and advice guys i will look them up and make my mind up, but yeah ive never had a branded knife before, always random hand me down knives that have been sharpened in some sketchy way or other haha.

also any reccomendations on websites to buy from??

budget wise about £40 GBP, dont know how much that is in dollars, i found a berger LMF asek going cheap, are they any good steel quality wise? but from the comments the falkniven range is sounding pretty good ;) Thanks again knife vets haha :D

EDIT: just looked at the price of the Fallkniven... ouch, look like real nice blades tho, the becker 15 i have just been looking at, the short one and yeah that looks like a beauty, jus need to find the cheapest website now to compare prices

Any thoughts on this knife?

Mora 2000: should be well within the budget.

No, I do not like that. Not really.
If you are looking for an affordable folder check out Cold Steel: I am not a great fun or something, but I think it could be a good start.
Are you from UK? Do you expect to have some problems with your knife laws? I heard they are quite strict. I mean really really strict.

hahaa yeah here in the u.k the law states you cant carry a knife that has a locking mechanism or over 3", but i live on the south west coast and am mostly out fishing or kayaking or general rambling around, i wouldnt like carry a knife into town or anything like that, i had a bunch of pikie gypsys get in a fight wiv me and my mates, one of the pikies pulled out a fillet knife and threatened us, the cops turned up on he got away with it because he had a fishing rod with him lmao, so as long as you carry it for genuine believable purpose, and in a safe sensible manner youre usually okay.
i really like the sound of that KA-BAR Becker B15, just need a decent website to order it off!

hmmmm yeah guess that would be a pretty but expensive brick then thanks for the heads up

decided getting a folder, within 60dollars... just cant bloody decide, there appears to be to many decent blades to choose from haha

$10 mora allround. Or get a real fillet knife. The Rapala ones made by martiini are good for the price.

Get a cheap knife. Figure out what you need, then ask your question again :)
