thanks for the advice bud, and yea these sound good jus gotta pick one, im liking the sound of 20dollars, thats only about £14, plus international p&p hahaa

My vote goes to the Spyderco Pacific Salt. Completely rust proof so you won't have to worry about it when you're fishing, big enough for most (folding knife) tasks, and it holds an edge really well, specially after you sharpen it a few times.

Hello guys, I am looking for a good quality well made knife that will last many many years, that has universal use. I enjoy fishing, bushcraft, general outdoor pursuits and i want to find a reliable Fixed or folding blade that will not deteriorate and can perform well at most tasks, from cutting rope and wood, to slicing fish and breaking glass and everything in between.
Yeah i know tall order! but if anyone knows the knife I am looking for, he definitley resides on this forum!!! Thanks in Advance, John.

You are going to need more than one knife to cover all of those tasks.

Get a real Fillet knife for the fish and pick something else for the rest of it.

Take a look at the ESEE 3 mil. It comes in right about 100 bucks. It is a 1/8 inch thick blade so it CAN fillet a fish (I am not saying it is good at it but I have done it), its great for general buscraft tasks, and has a glass breaker on the pommel.

Also has the best warranty of any knife period, you break it they replace it.

I think that will be about as close as your going to get to a knife that will do everything you posted. I also EDC mine everyday and its a fine knife.

after a lot of thought and consideration of all these brilliant suggestions, and because of budget i am going to get the Ontario RAT 1 for now (which looks and sounds like a wicked all round quality folder for the price) until i get the funds and knowledege to buy a more purpose driven and expensive fixed blade, also found a UK dealer that sells almost all the american blades which helps :)

still got the Ka Bar Mule in the back o' my mind though cos it does also have good reviews...

i really like the look of the ESEE 3Mil jus outta my price range aha, oh yeah i do already have a fillet kife, just need something for all the laborious tasks asked of a knife other than gutting and filleting!

clued up on the UK law aswell now, basically as long as its not an urban surrounding or public place i can carry a 12inch machete if i want to, legally haha :D

Thanks again gents for all of the well founded advice,
all the best! John
